Speaking in Abuja at the Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE) Stakeholders’ meeting organised by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Wanzel said the initiative aimed at providing demand-based skills to address youth unemployment and irregular migration crisis. “We see the potential in Nigerian youth. The news is coming at a time Nigerian workers are uncertain their struggle for a N30, 000 minimum wage would yield result. The Global Wage Report 2018/19 released yesterday reveals that the world’s wage growth also hit a 10-year low, the last of its kind being in 2007. President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa said the wage, which would come into effect January 1, 2019, would benefit about six million workers that currently earn R3,700 (N97,495). One South African Rand exchanges for N26.35. This means South African workers would be earning N527 per hour: N4,216 per day and N126,480 per month. FG To Sanction Companies That Fail To Observe National Public Holidays By Mod - [ Update ]  The Federal Government has called on Nigerians to ensure the strict observance of all public holidays according to the provision of the law. Disclosing this in a statement in Abuja on Friday, the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. (rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau stated that the laws establishing public holidays are contained in the Public Holidays Act of 1979, which states that, “The days mentioned in the Schedule to this Act shall be kept as public holidays throughout Nigeria.” The minister urged all Nigerians irrespective of their Organisations, Institutions or affiliations to ensure they obey and observe all holidays declared by Government, adding that according to the Act, “no person shall be compellable to do any act on a day appointed by or under the provisions of this Act to be kept as a public holiday which he would not be compellable to do on a Sunday”. Salaries, wages growing at lowest level since 2008 — ILO By Mod - [ Update Vanguard ] New York – Salaries are still far too low in the developing world with take-home pay growth overall at its lowest since 2008, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has said. The UN labour agency in its Global Wage Report 2018/19 released on Monday, also said that pay rose by just 0.4 per cent during last year in advanced economies. The report, however, said wages grew higher and faster in developing countries in 2017 than in richer nations, at over four per cent. ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, however, noted that wages in developing countries increasing more quickly than those in higher-income countries, should not be exaggerated. Ryder said: “That sounds like good news, because we all want to see convergence around the world.
