Miyetti Allah Demands Obasanjo’s Arrest over Content in Open Letter

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has called for the arrest of former President Olusegun Obasanjo over comments he made in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari. In the letter dated July 15, Obasanjo asked the president to take decisive action on insecurity, saying the situation could degenerate into a full-blown crisis if not tackled appropriately. Obasanjo said rather than “hammer” the farmer-herder crisis, the impression is that the government of Buhari is treating it with kid gloves. Makinde Declares Assets Worth Over N48bn

The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared his asset in excess of N48 billion in both cash and other properties. Makinde says he intends to fulfill all his campaign promises to the people of the state as he made public a copy of his declared assets. The Governor, who visited the Oyo state office of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in Ibadan to receive a copy of the asset declaration form said that his decision to make the assets public was in fulfillment of a personal promise he made before he was elected governor. Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has condemned the continuous killings of Nigerians in South Africa, warning that further attack on Nigerians would no longer be condoned. Philippe Coutinho has given his approval to an offer from Liverpool, to take him on loan from Barcelona, Calciomercato reports. Coutinho has been linked with a move way, after struggling to nail down a place last season. With the arrival of Antoine Griezmann’s arrival last week, his chances now appear to be slimmer. Floyd Mayweather paid tribute to late Hall of Fame boxer and American great Pernell Whitaker after he was killed aged 55 after being hit by a car.  A member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Whitaker was named boxer of the year by Ring magazine in 1989. He also won an Olympic gold medal in 1984. The late former US world champion nicknamed 'Sweet Pea' was struck in Virginia Beach, according to police. Mayweather posted a photo with Whitaker from two days ago, writing the caption: 'RIP champ, one of the best fighters to ever do it. This photo was taken 7/13/19.' Whitaker was pronounced dead at a Virginia Beach intersection on Sunday night after police were called to the scene of an accident, a police report said. In what will come across as a really shocking development, a final year student has been shot dead after his final exam.   Scene of the sad incident   A Final year student of the Cross Rivers University of Technology, CRUTECH, was shot dead this morning at about 11.30am shortly after he finished his final year first semester examination. Local reports show that the victim was stepping out of the examination hall when he was accosted by some fierce looking men who shot him at close range. The men fled the scene immediately. Students of the institution believe it is a cult-related murder. Supreme Court dismisses suit against Bulkachuwa

Supreme Court of Nigeria The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a suit filed by Usman Tuggar of the All Progressives Congress (APC), seeking to sack Adamu Bulkachuwa also of the APC, as the Senator elect for Bauchi North Senatorial District of Bauchi State. Tuggar, who through his counsel withdrew his cause of action, claimed he won the APC primary election held on Oct. 3, 2018 in his senatorial district. Justice Jonn Okoro in his judgment, held that the case was statute barred and therefore dismissed the motion on notice brought to the apex court by Tuggar. His appeal was challenging the APC’s decision to submit Bulkachuwa’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in his (Tuggar’s) place as its candidate for the actual election held on March 23, 2019. The supreme court upheld Bulkachuwa’s objection and struck out the suit on the grounds that it was statute barred, having been filed outside the 14 days allowed by the Constitution, a decision Tuggar appe

A promising Nigerian woman has had her life cut short after she slumped and died at a party.  Osarugue Eunice   There was serious panic at the St Maria Goretti Reunion Party in Edo State last Friday July 12th when journalist, Osarugue Eunice, who was at the school’s 60th anniversary party, slumped and died while dancing.   According to reports, Eunice was said to be life of the party as she was proudly showing off her dance moves whe she suddenly slumped on a chair and was thought to be taking a rest.   However after some minutes, people around her noticed she was not moving nor responding to her name when she was called upon.   A doctor was called and she was rushed to the hospital where she was certified dead on arrival. Nigerians spent nearly 3, 124, 026, 959 billion Naira to watch box office movies at Nigerian cinemas between January and June. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the figures are according to data provided by cinemas and gathered by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN). The year opened with ‘Aquaman’, ‘Chief Daddy’ and ‘Up North’ sitting on the top three of the chart with an estimated combined earnings of 168, 263, 512 million Naira. The movies maintained their positions until the fourth week when ‘Glass’ debuted at number one with ‘Aquaman’ taking second place and ‘Chief Daddy’, third booting ‘Up North’ to fourth place. This led to a combined earnings of 91, 409, 100 million Naira which fell to 77, 259, 811 million Naira as January closed with Kevin Hart’s ‘The Upside’ kicking ‘Chief Daddy’ to fourth place. A Nigerian man has had his life cut short after he was reportedly shot by SARS operatives in Lagos.   The victim   A yet-to-be identified man has lost his life after a stray bullet allegedly fired by Special Anti-Robbery Squad officers hit him at Ajisegiri street in the Palmgroove area of Lagos state this morning, Monday July 15th.   Information by an eyewitness revealed that the man who sweeps the street, was busy with his job when the SARS officers engaged some Cannibis smokers in a hot chase and fired gunshots at the Cannibis smokers.   Sadly, the bullet hit the deceased who died instantly. An Open Letter To Buhari, By Obasanjo Saying Killings Can No Longer Be Treated With Nonchalance

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has written another letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, expressing worry over incessant killings across Nigeria. According to him, the issue of killings can no longer be ignored or treated with nonchalance. He said it can not be swept under the carpet or treated with cuddling glove. The elder statesman in the letter also warned that Nigeria is tipping towards a dangerous cliff and only the president could forestall such a looming disaster. He was however quick to add that the President cannot handle the situation stressing the need for a joint effort to tackle the menace. If we do not act now, one or all of these scenarios may happen. The retired keeper, in an emotion-laden, voice told a correspondent that she was forced to quit football because of the ailment.     Bidemi Aluko   Former Super Falcons goalkeeper, Bidemi Aluko, is currently battling with breast cancer.   The cancer, according to her, developed in 2017 while still playing for Rivers Angels in the Nigerian Women’s Premier League.   She explained that immediately the cancer was detected, she was asked to undergo surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, which she did.   The retired keeper, in an emotion-laden, voice told a correspondent that she was forced to quit football because of the ailment.   Bidemi, who was in goal for the Falcons between 2012 and 2013, said she needed about N5m for treatment in Nigeria.   She said,  “It was in 2017 that I was diagnosed with breast cancer. A final year student of the University of Benin has taken his own life after jumping from a 2-storey building.   The student jumped to his death   A yet-to-be identified final year student student of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, has reportedly committed suicide by jumping down from the 2nd floor of a hostel building.   The incident occurred Sunday evening at the Faculty of Arts.   The deceased male student was said to be a student of the Department of Actuarial Science, Faculty of Management Sciences.   As at the time of filing this report, it was not clear if the deceased left a suicide note.   It was, however, gathered that the victim who was supposed to have graduated before now, had a spill over.     Efforts to get confirmation from the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Michael Osasuyi, failed, as calls made to his mobile phone failed to connect.   It would be recalled that a 21-year-old student of the University, Christab
