Suicide: Federal Government Restricts Sale, Use Of Sniper

The government's directive, which will be enforced by the National Food, Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC), was made public in Ibadan, Oyo State.       The federal government yesterday placed a restriction on the sale and use of the fatal agro-chemical product, Sniper. Since Sniper hits the Nigerian market, it has become the favourite of most Nigerians, especially the poor for killing mosquitoes and other pests. Similarly, the product has found its way into the hands of youths, who have continued to use it to commit suicide. In recent times, several Nigerian youths have committed suicide at the least provocation including failure in examinations, jilt by loved ones, using Sniper. It is against this background that the federal government yesterday directed that the product be withdrawn from the open market with immediate effect. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanow-Olu has approved the appointment of Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu as the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). A statement signed by Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola announced the appointment, noting that Osanyintolu’s vast experience in emergency management services at the State and Federal level will serve as an advantage to enhance the performance of the Agency. President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mr Mele Kolo Kyari as the new GMD of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The President also appointed seven Chief Operating Officers alongside Kyari. The newly appointed officers are to work with current officeholders till July 7, 2019, for a smooth transition to take place. Members of the ninth Bauchi Assembly after the first election which saw the emergence of Abubakar Suleiman as Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly is currently in disarray as members have elected two Speakers in separate elections. Eleven out of the 31 elected members of the Assembly sat as early as 7:00 am and elected Abubakar Suleiman as the Speaker of the House. Suleiman is a member representing Ningi Central Constituency and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Danlami Kawule a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Zungur/Galambi was also elected as the Deputy Speaker by the same group of lawmakers.
