Malawi gives albino citizens personal ’emergency alarms’

Image
Albinos The Malawian Government is handing out 1,600 personal security alarms to its albino citizens, in an attempt to stop deadly attacks on the albino community. “The gadgets will be distributed to persons with albinism in all the regions in Malawi,’’ Cecilia Chazama, Minister for Gender, Children and Disability, said on Friday. Albinos are targeted in Malawi and some other African countries because of the superstitious belief that their body parts are magic and can make people rich. Francis Masambuka, an albino activist, welcomed the project but stressed that it wasn’t a cure-all solution to attacks on people with the condition. “The gadgets are connected to the network of nearest police stations and once a person with albinism is under threat, they can press it and the police can rush to the scene,’’ he said. No fewer than 24 people with albinism have been killed and 160 attacks reported to police since 2014, according to figures from the Association of Persons wit

The 5 biggest U.S. Women's World Cup roster snubs

Image
Midfielder McCall Zerboni was the most surprising omission from the United States' 23-player roster for the 2019 Women's World Cup. (Getty) The core of the United States national team that will travel to France later this month for the 2019 Women’s World Cup has been established for months. So when U.S. Soccer announced on Thursday the team’s 23-player roster for this summer’s tournament, there was, in one sense, little of consequence. There was little uproar. There were end-of-the-bench decisions to be made, but that’s about it. There were, however, a few surprises. And there were, therefore, a few notable roster snubs. There was no Landon Donovan 2014. Nothing even close. And there weren’t any omissions that change the USWNT’s outlook at the World Cup. But there were two players in particular who some felt deserved to go to France, and who will instead be watching from home. The two major USWNT World Cup roster snubs McCall Zerboni | Age: 32 | Caps: 9 | Positio

Tiger Woods's Yacht Is Already Parked Within 15 Miles of Bethpage Black

Image
Tiger Woods opted to sit out this week's Wells Fargo Championship, ostensibly to rest his body ahead of the PGA Championship. It's hard to blame him for making that choice when the alternative is hanging out on your yacht in New York. It appears Woods' focus is already 100 percent on Bethpage Black, as his 155-foot yacht is already parked just 12 miles from the course. A<ccoridng to MarineTraffic.com, Privacy It is not clear whether Woods is staying on the yacht just yet, though all signs point toward it serving as home base during tournament week. The first round of the PGA Championship, where Woods will be seeking his 15th major, is on May 16. Woods' decision to sit out the Wells Fargo means he will make zero starts between winning the Masters and teeing it up at Bethpage, where he won the 2002 U.S. Open and finished T4 in the '09 Open. The current world No. 6 also stayed on Privacy during last year's U.S. Open, which was played at Shinnecock Hil

Europa League Roundup Arsenal comeback to win, Chelsea draw at Eintracht

Image
Getty Images Against the run of play in the first half, Arsenal showed a clinical touch that has been missing from the side in recent weeks. Alexandre Lacazette did not throw away his shots, scoring a brace as Arsenal defeated Valencia, 3-1, to take a lead in their UEFA Europa League semifinal tie. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who set up Lacazette for his first, scored a goal in second half stoppage time to put Arsenal in a commanding position ahead of next week’s trip to the Mestalla. Elsewhere, Chelsea used a goal from Pedro to come back and draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, 1-1 at the CommerzBank Arena in Frankfurt, Germany. Lacazette’s pair of goals gave him four during this season’s Europa League, as Arsenal has seemed to prioritize European competition, especially at home, over the past couple of months. In just the 11th minute at the Emirates Stadium, Mouctar Diakhaby got on the end of a Rodrigo header in the box and was quickest to react, scoring to put Val
