Saraki: PDP Agent Rejects Results

Ilorin – The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) agent at the collation centre for the Kwara central senatorial district, Hon. Isiaka Magaji has rejected the results of the election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC). Senate President Bukola Saraki Magaji refused to sign the result sheet at the collation centre situated inside INEC’s office, Ilorin. Speaking in an interview with journalists he said ” the report that I got from our agents in the four local government areas that made up Kwara central said there was massive electoral fraud in some polling units, especially  in Ilorin West local government area. The PDP agent later presented a protest letter to the returning officer for the election, Prof. Olawale Olatubosun. Mrs. Onuh floored her uncle and Benue State Deputy Speaker, Egli Johnson Ahubi with wide margin. Meanwhile, Ahubi has conceded defeat and congratulated Onuh for winning the seat. The Deputy Speaker, Engineer Ahubi in a congratulatory message to Lady Blessing Onuh said despite the many hitches experienced in the process, he accepted outcome of the election as the will of God. INEC cancels elections in Etung Council Area of Cross River, declares Bakassi inconclusive

Elections were not conducted in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State following violent attack on INEC officials who went to conduct the elections on Saturday Feb 23rd 2019. Disclosing this on Sunday while presenting the report to INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Calabar, the local government returning officer, Prof Chris Chukwurah said the crew narrowly escaped being lynched by suspected thugs. He said the attack was from all fronts, hence the possibility of conducting elections was impossible as INEC staff and ad hoc workers had to run for the safety of their lives and property. The returning officer said, “We were manhandled, the suspected thugs pursued us up to Ikom but we were rescued from the hands of our attackers by the soldiers and other security agencies. “Because of the violent attack, we couldn’t carry out elections in the area, hence the elections were cancelled in the local government area,” he stated. The lawmaker was declared the winner of the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency on Sunday in Bauchi State. Atiku Defeats Buhari Inside Aso Rock Polling Unit

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday defeated President Muhammadu Buhari in one of the two polling units located inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja. There are two polling units in the seat of power. For PU 022 Atiku polled 525 against Buhari’s 465. For the senatorial election, PDP won with 546 votes against APC’s 477. For the House of Representatives, PDP won with 521 votes against APC’s 466. There are still results of three voting points pending in the second polling unit, PU 021. Ghana’s Ex-President John Mahama Ghana’s former president John Mahama has scored a landslide primary victory to become the opposition candidate in the West African country’s 2020 elections. The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has denied the claim that one of its leaders identified as Ademola was lynched at Okota on Saturday during the Presidential and National Assembly polls in Lagos State. In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by OPC Publicity Secretary, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, the group dismissed the report that its member was stoned by angry electorate following an attempt by hoodlums to truncate the electioneering process in the state. Oguntimehin said OPC was a responsible organisation that believed in democratic process and freedom of choice during election. The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations on Human Rights and Conflict Resolution has spoken on the role of security agencies in the Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections across the 36 states of the federation. The human rights group specifically lauded the nation’s security agencies for being professional in discharge of their duties before, during and after the nationwide polls. Maxwell Gowon, the Executive Director of the coalition on the security situation during the conduct of the polls commended the Nigerian Military for its efforts at ensuring peace, stability and security even though the forecast for security and life during the election had been grim. While giving detailed accounts of what happened in some states during the polls, Gowon called on the security agencies to be at alert, considering that the prospect of violence in the aftermath of the announcement of results remains high. INEC adjourns Presidential Collation till Monday

ABUJA : The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has adjourned the final collation of the Presidential Election results to Monday by 11am. Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu announced this Sunday evening while formally declaring open the National Collation Centre. “From today, the collation centre is hereby declared open until the final determination of the 2019 presidential election. During the course of proceedings, there may be interludes or adjournments and these will be announced by the Chief Returning Officer. “At the moment no State Collation Officer has is around. Some of them are expected tonight. Accordingly, proceedings are hereby adjourned. We will reconvene by 11am tomorrow Monday 25th February for the collation of results”, he declared. Election Violence: Over 70 Youths Arrested In Abonnema, Says Annkio Briggs

Niger Delta activist and an indigene of Abonnema, Rivers State, Annkio Briggs, says over 70 youths have been arrested following the violence that took place in Abonema, Rivers State on Saturday. The youths were said to have been arrested by the army who claimed they were thugs. Beyond the arrests, Briggs said several people were killed on Saturday after the town was invaded by political thugs as well as the Nigerian Army. This, according to her, prevented residents from exercising their civic responsibility. “By this action, my people were disenfranchised from voting and my people were killed. “Yesterday night, through till this afternoon, Abonema has been under lockdown. “Over 70 youths have been arrested from Abonnema”, she said in an interview with Channels Television. The Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) on Sunday declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr Oluwashinaayomi Peller, the winner of the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/ Iwajowa and Kajola Federal Constituency seat in Oyo State. INEC’s returning officer, Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun, who declared the result, said Peller polled a total of 44,088 votes to beat PDP’s Najeemdeen Oyedeji ,who polled 31,336. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate and federal lawmaker, Olasupo Abiodun, who was elected in 2015 on the platform of the APC, came third in the contest with 12,309 votes.
