Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said on Sunday that Babachir Lawal would be prosecuted for allegedly stealing money earmarked for the displaced victims of Boko Haram insurgency, Premium Times reports. The vice-president said President Muhammadu Buhari had prevailed on anti-corruption agencies to prepare criminal charges against Mr Lawal, who served as cabinet secretary from 2015 until he was disgraced out of office on October 31, 2017, after being indicted of stealing millions of emergency funds. Mr Osinbajo said Ayodele Oke, the former director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) was also recommended for prosecution. Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state says he is still the senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) despite the suspension by the party last week. In the list of senatorial candidates published by the INEC, the governor’s name is among the candidates of the APC in Imo state that will contest the February 16, 2019, National Assembly election. Okorocha, who is the chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, an assemblage of APC governors in Nigeria, was Thursday night suspended for anti-party activities by the state chapter of the APC. The chairman of the state chapter of the party, Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo, in a release, said the action was taken, after a report from the disciplinary committee set up to investigate allegations of anti-party activities against the governor.
