EPL: Guardiola rates Manchester City’s chance of retaining Premier League title

Image
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has said that the only way for his side to retain this season’s Premier League title is to win their remaining games and make sure they don’t drop points. Guardiola stated this ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Tuesday. Guardiola’s side won the Premier League title last campaign with a record 100 points from 38 games but the former Barcelona coach believes that the pressure on winning the Premier League title this term is both on Liverpool and City. He said, “In both situations (Man City and Liverpool), later or earlier, the only chance we have is if we win the games. If not, it will be almost over,” Guardiola was quoted by Independent as saying at pre-match. “Every game for us is a final. In the cup competitions, we are playing also a final. So what should we do? If playing after, we have to win. If playing before, we have to win. “I think all the teams that want to win the title have to feel th

This Govt Would Have Silenced Me If I Had Skeleton In My Cupboard - Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki says the President Muhammadu Buhari administration would have silenced him if he had skeleton in his cupboard. Saraki said this when he paid a visit to Muftau Gbadamosi, olofa of Offa, at his palace on Sunday. The senate president said but for God and the support of the people “I will not be standing today.” “Since we joined the PDP the party has honored Kwara state, they gave us DG of Campaign, National Leader of the party and have agreed that if the party wins, senate president is our slot in Kwara,” he said. “But what has the other party to offer? If I have skeleton in my cupboard, this government would have silenced me and forced me to drop the campaign. “But for God and the support of the people I would not be standing today. They didn’t want to honor our agreement. We all laboured and what they couldn’t get in three times they got it and we demanded that they give to Kwara what we deserve. “We need to teach our seasonal politicians a l

Image
A former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau North, Jonah Jang, on Monday boasted that the state will deliver two million votes for the PDP presidential flag bearer Atiku Abubakar, come February 16, 2019. Jang accused the APC-led government in the country of taking the nation backward through its bad policies, adding that PDP would unseat it in the forthcoming polls. He stated this while speaking at the Plateau State PDP gubernatorial zonal rally for the northern zone held in Jos South LGA of the State, where urged the APC to accept defeat and handover power to the winners of election on May 29. “The ruling All Progressives Congress want to remain in power at all cost, but in 2015 when we (PDP) lost, we handed over to them; they should do same if they lose in 2019. “Since 1999, no PDP presidential candidate had ever lost an election in Plateau State, and failure will not start in 2019. “I want to urge Plateau people that during the forthcoming presid

Lagos lawmakers threaten to impeach Ambode

Image
Lagos state House of Assembly has threatened to impeach Governor Akinwunmi Ambode over his failure to present the 2019 budget to the House. A source at the Assembly, who pleaded anonymity, told The Guardian that the House might make move to collect signatures from lawmakers to remove the governor from office if the budget is not presented soon. Ambode lost his bid for re-election in October after the former governor of Lagos State and national leader of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu refused to back him for a second term because he deviated from the master plan created for the development of the state. Tinubu also accused Ambode, whom he supported in 2015, of alienating those who ” contributed so much to our development”. “Whenever a government departed from this plan without [a] compelling reason, the state and its people have borne the painful consequence of the improper departure,” Tinubu said. Apart from this, the governor and the House publi

The INEC boss was also said to have raised the alarm over what he described as the increasing violence tendencies by politicians and youths who could be used by politicians to carry out nefarious activities, saying that the elections might be disrupted if the security agencies refuse or fail to carry out their jobs, in line with INEC’s specifications. This is coming as the electoral body has also decided to allow members of the accredited civil society groups, local/international election observers and the media access to its Situation Room. Solskjaer Puts His United Winning Streak To Burnley Test

Image
Manchester United’s Norwegian caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer/ AFP Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims to continue his impressive start as Manchester United manager at home to Burnley on Tuesday, with the case for him to be appointed permanently seemingly growing by the week. The FA Cup fourth-round victory at Arsenal on Friday took the Norwegian caretaker manager’s record to eight successive wins since taking over from Jose Mourinho before Christmas — a mark that surpasses even the great Matt Busby at the start of an Old Trafford managerial reign. While it appears Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino remains United’s preferred choice as long-term appointment, the strides Solskjaer is making on and off the pitch make an increasingly compelling case for the 45-year-old to win the job. A fourth-placed finish, and Champions League football next season, were looking a distant dream in the latter days of Mourinho’s reign, but victory over Burnley would lift United level on points

Lazio drop to eighth place — three points off the Champions League spots — after their second defeat in a row after losing to Napoli by the same sco

Debate? Which debate?

Image
By Adewale Kupoluyi ONE  of the issues that has elicited diverse discussions in the last few days is the boycott of the presidential debate by the two main aspirants in the race to the highest office  in the land. To be sincere, next month’s presidential election is likely to be the most keenly-contested in the annals of the nation and is mainly going to be between the two most popular political parties. It is because of the dominance and deciding factor of these big parties that there has been a hue and cry  that the people were unable to hear from the duo during the organised debate. Ordinarily, such a platform would have afforded the contestants as well as the electorate an opportunity to have a clear picture of what is to come and who has what it takes to achieve the desired electoral outcomes. It would equally have made it possible to measure the strengths and weaknesses of the aspirants in terms of what they have to offer and the limitations. It is in light of these expect
