Marcus is a shining example of the talent that our academy produces and his upbringing means that he truly understands what it means to play for Manchester United. ‘Despite being only 21 years old, Marcus already has great experience. He has a fantastic future ahead of him with the club and I am delighted that he has signed a new contract.’ Marcus Rashford became one of Manchester United’s biggest earners on Monday — signing a £200,000-a-week, four-year contract worth £42million. The 21-year-old England striker, an academy product, sealed the deal with the option of an extra year potentially keeping him at Old Trafford until 2024. Rashford’s wages have increased from around £80,000 a week after a breakthrough in negotiations this summer. Lukaku arrived back at pre-season training early on Monday, a couple of days ahead of his anticipated return. The Belgium international is waiting for progress over his switch to Inter, with the Serie A club so far unwilling to match th

Man United stars got back to work on Monday following their summer breaks

The United players will train in the mornings and the afternoons from Monday to Friday this week as they look to improve on last season's sixth-placed finish and trophyless campaign, according to The Sun. Solskjaer wants a fitter squad. He has gone on the record previously to express his surprise at what he inherited. Carrington insiders told Sportsmail that the sports science department was 'almost redundant' under Jose Mourinho, something which has already changed. Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Co were seen heading into the training ground for the first day of pre-season training. James became the first summer arrival at Old Trafford when the 21-year-old joined from Swa

First came the tears and then came the gratitude, with Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff plucking up the courage at the net to thank Venus Williams for being an inspiration. It had been a strange way of showing it, taking 79 minutes to overwhelm one of her role models, someone who showed her — and her parents — what could can be achieved in tennis. This Williams 2.0 had always wanted to tell the original article what she meant to her. ‘In my science test I got a B and today I will give myself an A,’ she beamed later. It had been a brilliant performance, trading shot for shot with her idol and showing the priceless ability to pull out big serves when needed, hitting 116mph at one point. Next up is 2017 semi-finalist Magdalena Rybarikova. As for Williams, she can barely string two sentences together when interviewed. Asked for a gauge of her opponent’s potential, she said: ‘I think the sky’s the limit, it really is.’ Asked what advice she might give, she added: ‘Just have fun. Enjoy life.
