Pep Guardiola on Liverpool Controversy, Juventus Job Links & Griezmann to Man City Talk

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion v Manchester City - Premier League Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has apologised to Liverpool for any offence caused by the clubs' players and staff following their Premier League title sealing win over Brighton. The Citizens were travelling back to Manchester after retaining their title on the final day of the season, but have been at the centre of controversy after a video emerged perpetuating potentially distasteful chanting, mocking Liverpool's famed 'Allez, Allez, Allez' song. City's version was alleged to make references to the Hillsborough disaster and the attack on Liverpool supporter Sean Cox before a Champions League tie with Roma at Anfield - but Guardiola insists that was never the attention, apologising to the Reds in the process "It was not to offend the people about what happened in Hillsborough or the guy over what happened against Roma," Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference ahead of

Brexit talks collapse as May’s premiership crumbles

Image
Theresa May Britain’s tumultuous divorce from the EU was again in disarray on Friday after the opposition Labour Party declared last-ditch talks dead due to Prime Minister Theresa May’s crumbling government. Nearly three years after the United Kingdom voted 52 per cent to 48 per cent in a referendum to leave the EU, it remains unclear how, when or even if it will leave the European club it joined in 1973. The current deadline to leave is Oct. 31. Brexit talks between May’s Conservative Party and Labour collapsed hours after May agreed on Thursday to set out in early June a timetable for her departure. Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, wrote to May on Friday informing her that the Brexit talks, which began on April 3, had “gone as far as they can” due to the instability of her government. “We have been unable to bridge important policy gaps between us,” Corbyn, a socialist who voted against joining the predecessor of the EU in 1975, wrote to May. “Even more crucially, the in

The babyfaces almost secured a win but Marella's interference prevented that from happening. This led to Jerry Lawler leaving his desk and punching Santino to a sea of cheers. Unfortunately for Maria and Ashley, a Fisherman Suplex from Phoenix was enough to pin Maria, giving the win to the villains. Post-match, Snoop Dogg laid down a thunderous Clothesline on Santino Marella and left the ring alongside Maria and Ashley. This was one of Ashley's two major 'Mania appearances.

Tony Pulis Sacked by Middlesbrough After Failing to Make Championship Playoffs

Image
Middlesbrough have parted company with manager Tony Pulis, after failing to finish in the playoffs in the 61-year-old's first full season in charge. Pulis took over in December 2017, and led his side to a playoff semi-final last season, but they finished one point outside of the top six this time around, behind Derby County The club have made the decision to part with the former Stoke City boss, seemingly as a result, and will look to go one better and obtain promotion next season. Speaking after the decision, chairman Steve Gibson said, via BBC: "I'd like to thank Tony for his hard work and commitment over the past 18 months. He has been a joy to work with and a complete gentleman." Characteristic of Pulis' trademark style, Boro enjoyed a formidable defensive record under his tutelage, conceding just 41 goals all season - the same amount as promoted Sheffield United and 12 fewer than anyone else in the division. Their total of 49 scored, however, w

Defection Of Saraki, Dogara, 51 Others Is Unlawful – Court Rules

Image
The Federal High Court has declared as unlawful the defection of 53 lawmakers in the National Assembly to other political parties. Delivering the judgement on Friday, Justice Okon Abang held that based on the judgement of the Supreme Court, which gave reasons that would allow for defection, the lawmakers did not meet that requirement. The judgement followed a suit filed by the Legal Defence Assistance Project (LEDAP), challenging the defection of the Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and 51 other lawmakers and Senator Godswill Akpabio. LEDAP had asked the court to order the lawmakers to vacate their seats in the National Assembly and return all salaries and allowances earned since their defection, arguing that the lawmakers defected from their political parties for selfish reasons other than division in their parties as prescribed by law. But in the case of Senator Godswill Akpabio, Justice Abang held that he did no

Taiwan becomes first Asian nation to approve gay marriage

Image
Tsai Ing-wen: Taiwan’s first female president Taiwan lawmakers on Friday approved a same-sex marriage bill, making the island democracy the first Asian nation to legalise gay marriage. This was in spite of global criticism against the practice which many condemned citing both natural and divine laws. The bill will allow same-sex couples to officially register their marriage from May 24 and comes after a 2017 Constitutional Court ruling that gave the government two years to enact laws protecting the equal rights to marriage of gay couples. Tens of thousands of gay rights supporters, who turned out in spite of heavy rain, cheered outside the parliament building in central Taipei after lawmakers voted in favour of the bill. “The first in Asia! Taiwan’s human rights!” prominent gay rights activist Chi Chia-wei shouted from a stage as supporters waved rainbow flags. The Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights welcomed the move, saying it opened a whole new page in

China has a $3.65 trillion war chest to counter US tariffs

Image
Beijing’s main defense against trade-war fallout this year is more likely to come from the finance ministry than the central bank, no matter what President Donald Trump says. If tariffs begin to really hurt China’s growth this year, there’s plenty of direct fiscal firepower left to stoke the economy before the People’s Bank of China would have to cut interest rates, according to an analysis of government spending by Bloomberg. Data released Wednesday showed an across-the-board slowdown in April. Central and local authorities in China have at least 25.1 trillion yuan ($3.65 trillion) unspent in their budgets this year, data compiled using official budget plans show. That’s two trillion yuan more than the ammunition China had in the same period last year -- and about equivalent to the entire annual output of Germany. “Chinese leaders will be able to better utilize different kinds of policy tools than their U.S. counterparts if the trade war persists, and that’s where China

It truly takes time management but more importantly acknowledging what you do it for. I know that I am no longer just representing myself. “My biggest advice to other scholars of colour is to truly adopt the mindset of Rosa Parks — ‘No.’ Do not conform to the stereotypes that have held us under thumbs for

Trump wants his border barrier to be painted black with spikes. He has other ideas, too.

Image
Border barrier prototypes stand in the San Diego area in April 2018. President Trump has been intensely interested in the design and appearance of the project. The barrier that President Trump wants to build along the Mexico border will be a steel bollard fence, not a concrete wall as he long promised, and the president is fine with that. He has a few other things he would like to change, though. The bollards, or “slats,” as he prefers to call them, should be painted “flat black,” a dark hue that would absorb heat in the summer, making the metal too hot for climbers to scale, Trump has recently told White House aides, Homeland Security officials and military engineers. And the tips of the bollards should be pointed, not round, the president insists, describing in graphic terms the potential injuries that border crossers might receive. Trump has said the wall’s current blueprints include too many gates — placed at periodic intervals to allow vehicles and people through — and he

U.S. President Trump took out new 30-year mortgage in 2018 worth over $5 million

U.S. President Trump awaits arrival of Swiss Federal President Maurer at the White House in Washington WASHINGTON, May 16 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump took out a new 30-year mortgage on a sprawling oceanfront house steps from his own Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, and it is sitting empty on the rental market, according to financial disclosures made public on Thursday by the Office of Government Ethics. The $18.5 million West Palm Beach mansion was purchased in May 2018 from one of Trump's older sisters and was secured with an $11.2 million mortgage that has a 4.5% interest rate, Florida public records show. Trump disclosed the loan as a liability in financial disclosure forms filed this week. A real estate website lists the eight-bedroom house, which is near the Mar-a-Lago beachfront estate and private club in Palm Beach, as available for rent for about $81,000 a month. The Palm Beach Daily News reported that the president's two adult sons, Eri

People Loyal to Trump and Congress tried to Obstruct Probe: Micheal Flynn

Image
Former national security adviser Michael Flynn told investigators that people linked to the Trump administration and Congress reached out to him in an effort to interfere in the Russia probe, according to newly-unredacted court papers filed Thursday. The communications could have "affected both his willingness to cooperate and the completeness of that cooperation," special counsel Robert Mueller wrote in the court filings. Flynn even provided a voicemail recording of one such communication, the court papers say. "In some instances, the SCO was unaware of the outreach until being alerted to it by the defendant," Mueller wrote. No other details were provided in the filing, but the Mueller report noted that President Donald Trump's personal lawyer left a voicemail message for Flynn in late November 2017 that addressed the possibility of him cooperating with the government. "[I]t wouldn't surprise me if you've gone on to make a deal with ... t

Sarri’s job status reportedly in jeopardy

Image
Reports out of Italy say Maurizio Sarri could be fired even if Chelsea wins the Europa League. Yep, really. Sarri, 60, is wrapping up his first season at Chelsea. The Blues lost the League Cup Final in penalty kicks, finished third in the Premier League, and meet rivals Arsenal for the UEL crown. Why would he be fired? Because the fans don’t love him. The manager would then potentially be wanted by AC Milan, Roma, and Juventus, says Football Italia. The same outlet goes as far as to say that AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis, formerly of Arsenal, is headed to London to chat with Sarri. The same report says Roma would look to Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini. Will Chelsea move on from Sarri, even with silverware in tow? It’s possible, and some salacious reports claim Frank Lampard could be targeted by Roman Abramovich. It seems ludicrous, given how much work went into prying Sarri from his Napoli deal while Antonio Conte marinated in London. With a transfer ban looming, Chelse

Chelsea's Fingerprints Are All Over the Promotion Playoff Final

Image
After a thrilling week that included a dramatic penalty shootout, four red cards and 11 goals from both semifinal two-legged fixtures, the Championship’s playoff final is set. Two of the oldest teams in English football will join Norwich City and Sheffield United for a place in next season’s Premier League. Aston Villa–returning to the promotion final for a second straight year–faces Derby County, which is hoping to finally return to the top flight after being relegated after the 2007-2008 season. For the fifth- and sixth-placed teams, reaching the final was anything but easy. Villa fought hard in a West Midlands derby against a physical, resilient West Brom side, but thanks to a well-rounded squad and performances of third-choice-goalkeeper-turned-hero Jed Steer, Villa came out victorious in a penalty shootout at the Hawthorns. Derby, meanwhile, faced the aggressive Leeds United and its eccentric manager, Marcelo Bielsa. After losing 1-0 at home in the first leg, the Rams were

Luka Jovic 'Completes' £52.4m Move to Real Madrid From Eintracht Frankfurt

Image
FBL-EUR-C3-FRANKFURT-CHELSEA Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic has reportedly completed his anticipated switch to Real Madrid, with Los Blancos paying £52.4m for the Serbian, tying him down to a five-year deal, though some reports have denied an agreement has been reached. Jovic has been a revelation for the Bundesliga outfit this season, netting 27 goals across competitions and providing seven assists. Alongside Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud, he is the joint-top scorer in the Europa League this season, with his 10 goals helping Frankfurt to the semi-finals, where they were ultimately knocked out by the Blues. The 21-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Spanish capital this summer, and according to Sky Sports the deal has now been completed. The reports explained: "Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic has completed a £52.4m (€60m) move to Real Madrid, Sky Sports News understands. "The 21-year-old Serbia international has signed a five-year c

Barcelona President Insists Ernesto Valverde Is 'the Coach We Want' Ahead of Cup Final

Image
Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has insisted the club have no intentions of removing Ernesto Valverde from his post as Barcelona manager, despite another embarrassing exit from the UEFA Champions League this year. Having led 3-0 from the first leg of their semi final against Liverpool, Valverde's men crumbled to a 4-0 second leg defeat; just one season after relinquishing a 4-1 lead in last season's quarter finals against Roma. As a result, Valverde faced huge criticisms and calls for his head, despite leading the club to the La Liga title and into a domestic final later this month. Nevertheless, Bartomeu has backed the 55-year-old to continue in charge of La Blaugrana, claiming he is the right man in charge and is yet to finish the 'project' at hand in Catalonia. "Valverde said the other day that he has the support of the president and the board," he told Marca. "He's the coach we want. We're halfway through a large project. He ha

Real Madrid Ready 'First Approaches' Over Signing of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah

Image
Liverpool FC Real Madrid are alleged to be eyeing a swoop for Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah this summer, with one French broadcaster claiming that Los Blancos are at the stage of making their 'first approaches' for the prolific Egyptian forward. Real are known to be planning a summer rebuild to equip returning coach Zinedine Zidane with the tools to mount a fresh challenge in La Liga and the Champions League, and Salah's record for Liverpool would certainly make him a desirable target for anyone. The claim about Real making their 'first approaches' for Salah was made on the 'Late Football Club' show on French network Canal+. But how accurate such a claim is and whether Liverpool fans genuinely have anything to worry about over the next few weeks remains to be seen. Suggestions from Spain earlier this year that Salah had fallen out with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and apparently voiced his intention to leave were quickly quashed by the player&
