Zoe Lofgren, a Democratic congresswoman, had asked Pichai to explain what leads to such. “How would that happen? How does search work so that that would occur?” she asked. But Pichai said Google has a search algorithm that collates data from billions of web pages. “Any time you type in a key word, we, as Google, have gone out and crawled and stored copies of… billions of [web] pages in our index and we take the key word and match it against the pages and rank them based on our 200 signals, things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it,” he said. “Based on that, at any given time, we try to rank and find the best results for that query and then we evaluate them wit

Liverpool Qualify For Champions League Knockout Stage. English Premiership giants Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League knockout stage. Mohamed Salah’s stunning solo effort saw Liverpool edge out Napoli for a place in the Champions League last 16 thanks to a 1-0 win at Anfield on Tuesday. Salah wriggled beyond two Napoli challenges before finishing from a narrow angle 11 minutes before the break on a night when only Liverpool’s profligacy in front of goal cost them a more comfortable margin of victory. And they were nearly made to pay in stoppage time when Alisson Becker produced a crucial save to deny Arkadiusz Milik a dramatic equaliser. However, despite losing all three of their away games in Group C, three home wins at fortress Anfield were enough to see Liverpool through to the knockout stage on goals scored over the Italians in second place behind Paris Saint-Germain, who won 4-1 away to Red Star Belgrade to secure top spot.                          Reject proposed 80 new tertiary institutions and revitalise existing ones (2) Last week I started an examination of the effect of the bills currently pending before the National Assembly for the creation of 80 new Federal Institutions of higher learning. I detailed how this would be counterproductive given that most of the existing institutions continue to be starved of much required funding leading to the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). As stated earlier, the focus should not be in creating more universities, but ensuring that the current ones are brought up to the level that they can compete with other universities regarded as world class around the world. Indeed in Nigeria, the term “world class University” has become a colourful and feel good catchphrase, often invoked by Chancellors and Vice Chancellors. Very often we hear things like, “our university is world class.” Similarly, in many countries, po

He insisted that the development would not in any way affect the chances of Atiku Abubakar becoming the next president of Nigeria . Important Tips On Shopping Wisely This Festive Promo Season With the crowd entering the premises and music blaring from the giant speakers mounted at the entrance of the mall, it almost felt like a carnival at a popular mall in Lagos that Saturday evening. But as one would later find out, it was the last day of a promo-cum-Buy One, Get One Free offers on certain items declared by the mall. However, the long queue at the counter appeared to be the most discouraging. It was long enough to make one turn back to return another day even if the promo would have ended. But as impatient and anxious customers waited to pay for their goods and run off to escape the heat that had overpowered the air conditioning, there were instances where people in the slow-moving queues returned goods when the money they came with could not cover all the items they had picked. Such seems to have become a norm in the season of discounts and very attractive offers, such that some people even tend
