President Buhari today in Abuja, assured Nigerians that he will put in all efforts to ensure the best for the country and the citizens when he begins a second term in office on May 29, 2019, while appreciating all those that voted him during the elections. Court acquits man of defiling his 8-year- old stepdaughter

Justice Sybil Nwaka of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Monday acquitted a  sales engineer, Happiness Essien, charged with defiling his 8-year-old child daughter (name withheld). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 31-year-old Essien, who has been remanded in prison since May 25, 2016, was acquitted of a one-count charge of defilement mainly due to the absence of the alleged victim to testify during the trial. Setting Essien free, Justice Nwaka said: “I find the defendant not guilty of the offence of defilement or sexual assault, I set him free, he is thereby discharged and acquitted. “It is the resolve of the state to ensure victory not only for the victim but also the defendant.” Reacting to Essien’s acquittal,  Mr Babajide Boye, the lead state prosecutor, emphasized the importance of the testimonies of complainants in sexual and domestic violence in securing a conviction. Lagos – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will not condone lateness by candidates to its 2019 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), scheduled for Monday, April 1. JAMB The board’s Head, Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos. A total of 157,631 candidates have been scheduled to sit for the optional examination in some accredited Computer Based Centres (CBT) across the country. Yesterday, in Lagos,  an articulated truck went up in flames The incident occurred at the Ojota Bridge inward toll gates, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The fire incident saw the head of the truck consumed by fire. It took the spirited effort of the indefatigable men of fire unit of the LASEMA Rescue Unit (LRU) to rescue the vehicle. Officials of the LASTMA were also available to help, and to ensure that traffic was not impeded. 2019 African Wrestling Championships: Nigeria retains women’s title

Nine of the 10 female wrestlers registered by Nigeria won different colour of medals and this ensured that the team retained its title as the best female team at the 2019 African Wrestling Championship which ended yesterday in Hammamet in Tunisia. Also for her display coupled with the way she handled most of her opponents, Odunayo Adekuoroye was adjudged the most outstanding wrestler of the tournament. The nine female wrestlers won five gold, two silver and two bronze medals with only of them missing out from the podium. It was Sunmisola Balogun that claimed the first gold medal for Nigeria in the 65kg after beating Bukrina Faso’s Yvette Zie 1-0 while Blessing Oborududu continued her dominance in the continent with her ninth gold medal at the continental championship.
