Para-Mallam in an exclusive interview with DAILYPOST in Jos, the Plateau State capital said, “The idea of a Muslim-Muslim ticket in a State which is multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious as Kaduna by the present State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, for whatever reason; is politically wrong and unacceptable either in this 2019 election or the future. According to him, “That Governor El-Rufai believes he is always ‘right’ does not make it right.

Reject Atiku’s claims against me – Buhari begs Court

Image
The Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO), yesterday urged Justice Binta Mohammed of the High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to strike out a motion filed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, seeking to compel President Muhammadu Buhari to pay him damages amounting to the sum of N200 billion. Atiku’s demands are contained in his counter-claim in reaction to a N40 million libel suit filed by the Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) against him over an allegation that he defamed Buhari and his family. The BCO argued before the court that Atiku’s counter-claim in which he challenged President Buhari’s capacity and performance in office as president can only be sustained in a separate suit. In opposition to Atiku’s counter claim, the BCO contended that Atiku cannot be heard in the instant suit it filed. Rather, the BCO urged the former vice president to provide proof of evidence that President Buhari and mem

Millions of barrels of crude stranded in the Atlantic

Image
The NS Concept is a colossal red-and-yellow oil tanker with an international background almost as colorful as its paintwork. It sails under the flag of Liberia; was built in South Korea by Hyundai, and is owned and commercially managed by Russia’s Sovcomflot. However, of late it’s been  drifting in international waters, owing to US sanctions. File Photo: Joint Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield, impounded this vessel, MT Shandy, over suspected crude oil theft. This tanker is one of many  in limbo off the Venezuelan coast due to US sanctions on the nation’s oil exports. Some, laden with as many as two million barrels of oil apiece, are waiting just offshore. Others, like the Concept, have been forced out to sea after being rejected from their intended destination in the US. While Venezuela maintains that its oil exports remain high, they seem to be counting the total tanker loadings, and not actual departures or off-loadings, Samir Mandani, co-founder of TankerTrackers.com, told Q

IMO 2020 sulfur cap pushes up prices of secondhand tankers

Image
The new sulfur emission norms for marine fuels have pushed up t prices of secondhand tankers, particularly the Long Range II, which is in strong demand according to shipping industry executives. Prices of five-year-old LR2s have risen by at least 28% in the last six months alone, they said. According to International Maritime Organization, it will be mandatory globally to cut sulfur emissions from marine fuels to 0.5% from next year compared to the current 3.5%. This will push up the demand for marine gasoil, or MGO, which is moved in clean tankers and their freight rates are also expected to get a boost, making them attractive for investors. Shipowners are finding it lucrative to buy clean tankers such as LR2s, which is a preferred mode of transportation for MGO, sources said. “There is an asset play going on with more LR2s being grabbed by owners or S&P, market,” a source involved in such deals said on the sidelines of the MARE Shipping Forum in Singapore earlier this

We Can Win United, Emery Says After Rennes Defeat

Image
. LOIC VENANCE / AFP Arsenal manager Unai Emery is confident his team can bounce back from their Europa League setback in Rennes when they face a euphoric Manchester United side this weekend. The Gunners played most of Thursday’s game with 10 men after Sokratis Papastathopoulos was sent off late in the first half as they threw away an early lead to lose 3-1 in France in their Europa League last 16, first leg. Alex Iwobi had put them in front, but Rennes took advantage of their extra man to come back and claim a potentially vital two-goal cushion. The result means they should have their work cut out if they are to progress to the quarter-finals, with the second leg against the Ligue 1 club scheduled for next Thursday. “The first 40 minutes I think we controlled it, we scored, and we didn’t concede many chances to them,” said Emery, who accepted his team did not play well after the sending-off. Benjamin Bourigeaud and Ismaila Sarr scored for Rennes either side of a Nacho Mo
