Our Captors Were Fulani Herdsmen says RCCG Pastor

Image
The Deaconess of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Mrs. Chidinma Ibelegbo Saturday said those who kidnapped along Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway on Thursday were Fulani herdsmen. Ibelegbo, who was kidnapped alongside four other persons, claimed that she escaped from the den of her captors when they fell asleep, an account entirely different from the claim of the Ogun State Police Command that took credit of her release. She gave the testimony of how she was divinely released at the ongoing RCCG Ministers’ Conference at the Redemption Camp at Kilometre 46, Lagos-Ibadan expressway last night. Ibelegbu, a deaconess from Abia State RCCG 3, recounted that she earnestly prayed to God that her captors should fall asleep so that she could sneak of their den. Shortly after she prayed, the deaconess said she sneaked out of the kidnappers’ den. In a statement, Saturday, the police command confirmed that it had rescued the only female official of the RCCG kidnapped on the way

Sowore’s arrest travesty, he has not committed treason – Soyinka

Image
Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka on Sunday described the arrest of activist, Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Security, DSS, as a travesty and violation of the fundamental rights of citizens to congregate and make public their concerns. Soyinka said the young politician has never engaged in any treasonable act as being claimed by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu. Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, in the early hours of Saturday arrested Sowore, who is also the convener of ‘#RevolutionNow’ protests. Sowore posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 am with an eyewitness confirming that his phone was forcefully taken from him. The Senior Pastor of COZA, Biodun Fatoyinbo, on Sunday returned to the pulpit

Image
The Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA, Biodun Fatoyinbo, on Sunday returned to the pulpit, a month he stepped down following serious rape allegation against him. Busola Dakolo, wife of singer, Timi Dakolo had accused Fatoyinbo of raping her 20 years ago while she was still 16 years old in Ikorin, Kwara State. The rape allegation drew sharp criticism and condemnation from different quarters. However, Fatoyinbo, in his sermon, titled: “Sudden victories,” told a large crowd that Christians would surely face persecution, but that God would always deliver them. Taking his texts from 1 Timothy 6:12; Mark 4:35-37 and 1 Corinthians 10:13, Fatoyinbo stated that “As a Christian, you must face opposition. If God, who is holy and faithful has enemies, you are sure going to have.” According to him, most times, when faced with troubles, Christians had the tendency to call everyone except God for help. He noted that the reason most Christians fail was that they

ROUHANI SAYS 'CHILDISH' OF U.S. TO SANCTION IRAN FOREIGN MINISTER ZARIF

Image
The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. Washington has previously proposed unconditional talks with Tehran. "They (Americans) are resorting to childish behavior... They were claiming every day 'We want to talk, with no preconditions' ...and then they sanction the foreign minister," Rouhani said in remarks carried live on state television. "This means they have lost the power of rational thought." Zarif, a critical figure in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, dismissed the action and said it would not affect him. U.S. President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the deal last year and ramped up sanctions to put pressure on Iran's economy. The move dismantled part of President Barack Obama's legacy and upset U.S. allies who were party to the agreement, which was designed to restrict Tehran's pathway to a nuclear bomb in exchange for sanctions relief. He said a government advisory body would be set up to make suggestions to improve reforms in education, health, agric

China orders business owners to take down Arabic, Islamic signs

China orders business owners to take down Arabic, Islamic signs Authorities in the Chinese capital have ordered halal restaurants and food stalls to remove Arabic script and symbols associated with Islam from their signs, part of an expanding national effort to “Sinicize” its Muslim population. Employees at 11 restaurants and shops in Beijing selling halal products and visited by Reuters in recent days said officials had told them to remove images associated with Islam, such as the crescent moon and the word “halal” written in Arabic, from signs. Government workers from various offices told one manager of a Beijing noodle shop to cover up the “halal” in Arabic on his shop’s sign, and then watched him do it. “They said this is foreign culture and you should use more Chinese culture,” said the manager, who, like all restaurant owners and employees who spoke to Reuters, declined to give his name due to the sensitivity of the issue. The campaign against Arabic script and Islamic

Set criteria for ministerial nominees confirmation, Coalition of lawyers tells Senate

Image
Nigerian Senate during plenary The Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates (COPA) has urged the Senate to set a parameter or criteria for confirmation and rejection of ministerial nominees and others sent to it by the president, to ensure transparency. The Convener and leader of the coalition, Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi, made the call on Wednesday in Abuja in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Olajengbesi said such criteria would guide the process and ensure fairness and patriotism during screening rather than the “take a bow” method granted to most of the nominees in the just-concluded exercise. “The Nigerian Senate has just announced the completion of the screening and confirmation of the ministerial nominees and Nigerians are made to wonder if the Senate is aware of its onus as an important body vested with constitutional powers to carry out this crucial assignment. “The entire screening process was a demonstration of disloyalty to the Nige

Everton Midfielder Idrissa Gueye has completed medical with PSG and move will be announced on £30m deal

Image
He was in Senegal on holiday after the African Cup of Nations when he jetted to France over the weekend to seal his move. Marco Silva has already signed one senior midfielder at Goodison, Manchester City and England's Fabian Delph, and may look for another now that Gueye's departure is close to being confirmed. Everton have been linked with Chelsea's out-of-favour Timoue Bakayoko who plays in a similar position to Gueye, and reportedly shown interest in forwards Moise Kean of Juventus and Wilfried Zaha. Gueye was a popular figure at Goodison after signing from Aston Villa in 2016 but found the incentive of playing alongside Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in the Champions League too tempting. Though reluctant to sell, Everton didn't want to stand in the player's way once PSG had made an acceptable offer. Gueye, who started his career with Lille, scored four goals in 108 appearances for The Toffees. Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has completed his £30million

Everton expect to complete the transfer of Juventus forward Moise Kean for £27.5million rising to £36m this week.

Image
Though Everton have stepped back from a proposed move for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, they have pulled off a significant coup with the purchase of 19-year-old Italy international Kean, who is due to arrive for a medical on Wednesday. Marco Silva remains in the market for a winger but Zaha is considered too expensive after Palace rejected Everton's bid of £52million last weekend. Kean, who scored six Serie A goals in 13 appearances last season and has scored twice in his three games for Italy, should provide Everton boss Silva with the clinical edge his attack has been lacking. He also hopes to add another four signings before August 8. Gbamin apart, Everton have asked about Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente and Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori while they have also discussed Celta Vigo midfielder Stan Lobotka and Southampton's Mario Lemina. However, Palace maintain a desire to sign Everton midfielder James McCarthy in a projected £10m deal and retain an intere
