Norway's Haland, 18, scores 9 goals in U-20 World Cup match

Image
Records are made to be broken, but not usually by such an absurd margin. In a U-20 World Cup match between Norway and Honduras, 18-year-old Erling Braut HÃ¥land scored a "hat trick of hat tricks," netting nine goals in 83 minutes (he scored his first in the seventh minute) to shatter the previous record for goals in a match at the tournament; the previous record was six. Norway's 12-goal margin of victory is also a record for the U-20 World Cup. HÃ¥land's (which can also be spelled Haaland) nine were part of a 12-0 thrashing that Norway put on the CONCACAF squad, in a match it had to win to advance to the Round of 16 (it did). While HÃ¥land isn't a particularly well-known prospect on the international stage, he's not completely under the radar, either. HÃ¥land currently plays for Austrian power Red Bull Salzburg, having previously broken out at Norwegian side Molde, where he was coached by current Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, among oth

North Korea executes envoys in a purge after failed summit: South Korean newspaper

Image
SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea executed its nuclear envoy to the United States as part of a purge of officials who steered negotiations for a failed summit between leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump, a South Korean newspaper said on Friday. Kim Hyok Chol was executed at Mirim Airport in Pyongyang, along with four foreign ministry executives, in March after they were all charged with spying for the United States, the Chosun Ilbo reported, citing an unidentified North Korean source. "He was accused of spying for the United States for poorly reporting on the negotiations without properly grasping U.S. intentions," the source was quoted as saying. The summit in Hanoi, the second between Kim Jong Un and Trump, failed to reach a deal because of conflicts over U.S. calls for complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and North Korean demands for sanctions relief. Kim Yong Chol, Kim Jong Un's right-hand man and the counterpart of U.S. Secretary of

Trump attacks Mueller as a 'true never-Trumper' after admitting for first time that Russia helped elect him President Donald Trump on Thursday attacked special counsel Robert Mueller while speaking to reporters outside the White House, calling him a "true never-Trumper" and saying that he never should've been tapped as special counsel. "I think Mueller is a true never-Trumper," the president said. Trump's comments came one day after Mueller's first public remarks on his nearly two-year Russia investigation. Mueller said on Wednesday that if his team "had confidence that (Trump) clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so." Earlier Thursday, Trump tweeted that he had "nothing to do with Russia helping me to get elected." But he walked back that statement while speaking to reporters shortly after the tweet, saying that "Russia did not help me get elected." "I helped me get elected," Tru

President Obama calls Messi ‘genius’ and backs him despite World Cup disappointment

Image
Former U.S. President Barack Obama spoke Tuesday morning at a marketing and business conference in Colombia, and it’s no surprise that, as an avid sports fan, he waded into one of the big sports stories in South America for the past decade: Lionel Messi and the World Cup. “Even people that we consider geniuses work with other people in order to develop their style,” Obama said at the EXMA Conference, via Diario AS. “In Argentina, even though Messi is wonderful, they have problems winning the World Cup. “My advice to young people is that we have to recognize very few people achieve great things on their own.” Obama’s comments come on the back of Messi absorbing a lot of anger and rage for Argentina’s failure to win a World Cup during his career. Since making his international debut in 2015, Messi and Argentina have failed to win both the World Cup and Copa America, coming in as runners-up in Russia in 2014, and in South America in 2004, 2007, 2015 and 2016. Monaco 'Enter Negotiations' With Tottenham over Serge Aurier

Image
According to France Football, Monaco are interested in bringing the Ivorian back to Ligue 1 following his unsuccessful stint in England as they look to bounce back from a horrendous league campaign. Aurier has fallen out of favour with Mauricio Pochettino and also struggled with injuries, making only eight league appearances for the Lilywhites with the Spurs boss preferring Kieran Trippier despite the Englishman having a similarly disappointing season. The report states the former PSG defender would provide competition for Djibril Sidibe. Monaco are in need of reinforcements following their close call with relegation, just a few years after winning Ligue 1. Aurier is more than familiar with Ligue 1, having had spells at Lens, Toulouse and Paris Saint-Germain, and won France's top flight twice during his time with Les Parisiens. Interestingly, the rumour comes from French journalist Nabil Djellit, who broke the news of Lucas Moura’s transfer from PSG to Tottenham in 2

Missing out Champion League Qualifications can Slow Signing: Emery

Image
Emery said missing out on Champions League qualification could hurt the club's moves in the close season. "Maybe, but we are a big team. I think Arsenal is a big name in the football world, and a lot of players want to play here," he told a news conference. "We are in one process and we need, in this process, to be strong. When we started this season, the idea was to get more competitive, like a team, to be closer to the other teams, and we did that. "At the moment it's not enough to reach our targets, but we'll continue working in our minds. "The transfers, I don't know for next year, but the club is working to improve and to take all we need to go our way. Also, we have a lot of players with the possibility to improve. "We are playing a lot of young players, experiencing a final for the first time. I am positive for our future, creating our way with young players and getting better in our way." Despite being under pressure earlier in the season, Sarri claimed the Europa League and also led Chelsea to a third-place finish in the Premier League. Sarri said he was unsure about his future, but added he was set for talks with Chelsea. "I do not know if I will leave, otherwise I think it is time to celebrate and we will draw the sum of the season," he said. "I will ask the management to improve something and I will listen to them, what they ask to improve. I have a two-year contract." Maurizio Sarri is unsure about his future as the Chelsea head coach discussed links to Serie A champions Juventus. Sarri claimed his first piece of major silverware on Wednesday, guiding Chelsea to a 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Europa League final. The Italian arrived at Stamford Bridge on a three-year deal in July 2018, but has been heavily linked with the vacant post at Juve. South Korea's victorious under-18 footballers apologised to "all the people in China" after a picture emerged of one of their players celebrating with his foot on the Panda Cup. The Koreans were accused of disrespect after they defeated hosts China 3-0 on Wednesday to win the youth international competition in the city of Chengdu. The photograph caused uproar in Chinese media and on social media, with the organising committee accusing the Koreans of "a serious insult". Demanding an immediate apology, the Chengdu Football Association hinted that South Korea would not be invited back to the annual tournament. South Korea's squad and coaches subsequently appeared late in the evening at their hotel and made a public apology in which all the players and staff bowed deeply. "First of all, we apologise for the situation, one of our players made a huge mistake," said one South Korean team official. Reading from a statement in English, he add

Goodbye to Chelsea :Eden Hazard

Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard has announced that he believes he has played his last ever game for the club. The Belgium international was the star of the show in Chelsea Europa League final success over Arsenal, scoring two goals while also picking up an assist for the match-winning strike. But all the talk of the final has centred around Hazard's future in west London, having been heavily linked with Real Madrid, and the 28-year-old confirmed after Chelsea's win in Baku that the Europa League final was likely his last outing for the Blues. "I made my decision two weeks ago and now it just depends on the club," Hazard initially told BT Sport in his post-match interview. "[I'm waiting for] both, both clubs - I'm just waiting like you wait and the fans wait. You will know in a couple of days." But Hazard then went on to admit that he believes he's played his last ever game for the club, claiming that it's time for a n
