The move by the Federal Government to proscribe the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has continued to trigger more mixed reactions across the country. Speaking about the issue during his appearance on  Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily  on Monday, Mr Garba Shehu insisted that the move was in the right direction. A whale was unfortunate enough to walk into the vicious hands of some locals who dissected its meat for consumption.     The whale being cut into pieces   These are images of a grounded whale which was killed in the Niger Delta part of Nigeria   The whale was reported to have been swept to the shores of the beach at the Okpoama and Onyekia communities in Brass Local government area of Bayelsa State on Sunday 28/07/2019.   The villagers pounced on it and started cutting it into pieces in excitment.   From the look of things, a public holiday might be declared in the region to accommodate the celebration by the people.   See more images:       tori.ng

Kidnappers reduce ransom to free Siasia’s Mother

The abductors of Samson Siasia’s mother, Mrs Beauty Ogere Siasia have reduced their demand for the release of the 79-year-old woman to N50million from initial N70million. Samson Siasia’s, a former Super Eagles striker and coach, and his family were understood to have pleaded with his mother’s abductors to accept N500, 000, explaining he has been out of job for sometime now. The 79-year old Beauty Ogere Siasia was kidnapped 16 days ago alongside 65-year old Florence Donana and her 17-year old grand daughter. Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a former chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Akoko-Edo branch, Alhaji Jimoh Olumoye. It was gathered that Alhaji Olumoye was abducted along Igarra-Okpe Road on Sunday afternoon while driving in his car to pick his children from the farm. It was gathered that children of the victim raised the alarm when they saw their father’s car with the doors opened and his phones abandoned. A family source who craved anonymity, said the family has lodged a formal complaint at the Igarra police station. The source said: “His children had gone to the farm early in the morning and he promised to go and pick them in the afternoon before he would attend his family meeting. “The children waited endlessly for their father and when they did not see him, decided to trek. Fashola being screened by Senate The Senate on Monday grilled former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola who appeared before the upper chamber to be screened for a ministerial position. Over 25 senators, out of the over 50 who wanted to ask questions, were allowed to grill Fashola, who was the immediate past Minister of Works, Power and Housing. Royal Court of Saudi Arabia has announced the demise of Prince Bandar bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud on Sunday evening, says Saudi Press Agency. Prince Bandar, the tenth son of the country’s founding monarch Abdulaziz Ibn Al Saud, and the eldest surviving member of the ruling family, died at the age of 96. According to the statement issued by the Royal Court, prayers will be held today after Isha prayers at the Grand Mosque (Masjid Al-Haram) in the holy city of Makkah. At the time of his death, Prince Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was not actively involved in political royal within the ruling Al Saud family. Prince Bandar’s sons, however, hold important posts: Prince Faisal bin Bandar is governor of Riyadh; Prince Abdullah bin Bandar heads the National Guard; Prince Abdullah bin Bandar is deputy governor of Mecca and Prince Khalid bin Bandar serves as an adviser to King Salman.

Update: Nganzai attacks: Death toll jumps to 70, more bodies recovered

More bodies were recovered between Sunday and Monday morning by rescue workers in Nganzai local government of Borno State, where Boko Haram unleashed mindless violence at the weekend. At least 70 people have now been confirmed dead, in one of the worst attacks by the insurgents in recent months. Three villages were attacked by the militants who came in five trucks, fitted with anti-craft guns. A rescue official who led the recovery operations in the area, told the Chinese news agency Xinhua that at least 15 bodies were recovered since Sunday evening. Most of the bodies were found in the bush, having bullet wounds. Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on Sunday said that 55 bodies of villagers were found after the militants’ three separate attacks in Badu Malam Kyariri, Zawa and Lamisula Bukar Bulala villages. Tribunal: We won’t call any witness against Atiku, PDP – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said it will not call any witness to defend its case against former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his party before the Presidential Tribunal in Abuja. Atiku and the PDP are by their petition challenging the outcome of February 23, 2019 presidential election which INEC declared was won by President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress. After presenting 62 witnesses, Atiku and the PDP rested their case. The tribunal, led by Justice Mohammed Garba adjourned further proceedings till Monday for INEC to open its defence. But when called upon by the tribunal to open his case on Monday, INEC’s lawyer, Yunus Usman (SAN), said it would not be necessary on the grounds that the evidence extracted from the petitioners’ witnesses during cross-examination was in support of the commission’s case. Manchester United have included Nigerian winger Maximilano Oyedele, on their squad for the 2019 SuperCupNI in Northern Ireland. This is according to the official website of the SuperCupNI, which added that the Nigerian youngster will play with the number 12 jersey during the competition. Other players of Nigerian origin, Mipo Odubeko, Ayodeji Sotona and Shola Shoretire represented Manchester United in the 2017 edition of the SuperCupNI.
