Criticising Buhari Not Personal, I Am His Boss – Obasanjo

Image
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that his criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is not borne out of hatred. He stated this on Tuesday during an event to mark his 82nd birthday anniversary held at the Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. “Buhari; there is nothing personal between me and him … I am his boss, with all due respect,” the elder statesman said. He added, “The point is that I have been in that position longer than any Nigerian will ever be there.” The former president explained that he was only criticising the programmes and policy of the present administration to ensure that things were done according to democratic norms. He noted that while anybody could be in the President’s position, the purpose of criticism was to deepen democracy and ensure economic growth and development of the nation. Obasanjo said, “You see that in a democracy, to criticise a policy of government is not a family affair; even

Adewale was arrested on Monday, March 4, 2019, by detectives attached to Ogun State Police Command. The suspect, according to the police, had admitted before homicide detectives that he matcheted the old woman because he had an inclination that the woman was responsible for most of his spiritual problems. It was gathered that the suspect, who is a regular player of Baba Ijebu lotto, also alleged that each time he was at the verge of winning, the aged aunty would alter the numbers spiritually. “Whenever I am sure of winning, the deceased who is my father’s elder sister will use her supernatural power to change the winning number,” Adewale lamented. Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said that the arrest of the suspect followed a distress call received by the DPO Ago-Iwoye Div

Euro, Canadian dollar fall before central bank meetings

Image
The euro fell towards a one-week low on Tuesday as the dollar gained broadly and investors began pricing in more caution from the European Central Bank at its meeting on Thursday. The ECB is facing growing pressure to address the question of how to protect the eurozone economy from a protracted slowdown. Expectations that the central bank will delay hiking interest rates until next year and soon re-launch long-term loans to banks have put pressure on the euro, which has fallen 1.2 per cent against the dollar this year. “The euro’s losses may be down to the fact that the ECB’s new projections on Thursday might paint a more subdued picture than before,” Antje Praefcke, an analyst at Commerzbank, wrote in a note to clients. “The market may already be pricing in a slightly more cautious ECB, which is why the euro is already aiming for the 1.13 dollar mark,” he said. The euro dipped 0.2 per cent to 1.1318 dollars. It had brushed a 7-day low of 1.1309 dollars on Monday. Elsewh

US President Donald Trump speaks during a cabinet meeting in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington, DC on February 12, 2019. MANDEL NGAN / AFP Washington will scrap the preferential trade status of India and Turkey, the US trade chief’s office said, as President Donald Trump ramps up his battle against what his administration views as unfair foreign trade practices. Trump has made an overhaul of global trade and the slashing of American trade deficits a central plank of his presidency. The Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program had granted favourable treatment of imports from both countries for a range of manufactured goods, such as automotive parts, tires and appliance parts. But Trump’s administration will end “India’s and Turkey’s designations as beneficiary developing countries” because both countries no longer qualified, the Office of US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in a statement Monday. Buratai and the price for national honour

Image
I reflected intensely, on the presidential and national assembly elections held February 23, 2019. My thoughts meandered far and near. The gory images of violence before and after the elections kept assaulting my psyche. I feared and dreaded February 23. I wanted to relocate to a neighboring country for safety. Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai / AFP I wasn’t alone in this cage. Nigerians were generally apprehensive. The signposts of phobia were everywhere in the country and President Muhammadu Buhari knew it. Mr. President, a security czar of the military ilk, got the message clearly that conventional civil security alone cannot police Nigeria on Election Day and post-election period; the feverish days results are enthusiastically awaited. Buhari knew the army is the only saving grace. So, he called the COAS and leader of counter-terrorism in Nigeria, Lt. Gen. TY Buratai to render assistance to regular civil security. Buratai complied with the instructions

Ten years after the first confirmed case of an HIV-infected person being rid of the deadly disease, a man known only as the “London patient” has shown no sign of the virus for nearly 19 months, they reported in the journal Nature. Both patients had received bone marrow transplants to treat blood cancers, receiving stem cells from donors with a rare genetic mutation that prevents HIV from taking hold. “By achieving remission in a second patient using a similar approach, we have shown that the Berlin patient was not an anomaly,” said lead author Ravindra Gupta, a professor at the University of Cambridge, referring

This Tiny Jacquemus Handbag Is The New Fashion Craze

Everything you need to live well It’s so small wags joke that it can only hold a Tic Tac. But French brand Jacquemus’ teeny weeny bag, “Le Mini Chiquito”, is arguably the biggest thing at Paris fashion week. Never has something so tiny excited so much fashion passion — and hilarity — on social media. The handbag — or should we say fingerbag — made its debut last week on the opening night of the Paris shows. A shrunken version of the miniature and already cult $500 (440-euro) “Le Chiquito” bag — which the likes of Rihanna and Kim Kardashian have been spotted clutching between their thumb and forefingers — it is a mere 5.2 centimetres (two inches) long. Jacquemus has sold “tens of thousands” of Le Chiquito bags in the last year, according to Cosmopolitan magazine, with fashionistas so desperate to get their fingers on them that there are lengthy waiting lists for some colours. The court set bail at one billion yen ($9 million), but prosecutors appealed the decision and could even file additional allegations against the 64-year-old to keep him from leaving detention. Under his bail terms, Ghosn

Ogara had told DAILY POST that he served all the relevant parties the court judgement, and wondered why they were yet to comply appropriately. Following the development, the commission has now removed the name of the party’s candidate in its final list for

Mourinho finally opens up on his problem with Pogba at Manchester United

Image
Jose Mourinho has suggested that his failure to get the best out of Paul Pogba at Manchester United, was because he did not have the right “chemistry” with the midfielder. Pogba has made a drastic improvement since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Mourinho as manager in December, with nine goals and seven assists in 15 appearances. During his time at Old Trafford, Mourinho clashed many times with Pogba and the 56-year-old admits he needs to improve how he manages the players he is not always on good terms with. “I think the thing that normally is crucial and I’m thinking about all these things in the two months I’ve not been working. “You try to always to find solutions for the problems, there is one problem that I cannot find a solution which is – when the player is playing he likes the manager, when he’s not playing he doesn’t like the manager. “This is something basic that you can try to control a little bit, but that’s the nature and that nature you’re not going to change
