Nigeria Plans to Invest $500 Million to Boost Palm Oil Production

Nigeria plans to increase its palm oil production 700% over the next eight years to help improve its foreign-exchange earnings that are largely dependent on crude oil exports. The new policy will boost local production to about five million tons from 600,000 tons a year by investing as much as 180 billion naira ($500 million) beginning this year, the trade and investment ministry said in a report. “Our policy objectives over an eight-year period (between 2019 and 2027) will see that we locally produce 100% of local crude palm oil demand by 2027, increase revenue from importation via duties and deliver 225,000 full time jobs and at least 450,000 seasonal jobs,” it said. The new policy also seeks to remove the 75% duty rebate granted on refined palm oil imports and extend a current three-year tax holiday for all producing and processing companies to five years. Babachir-Lawal An FCT High Court, in Maitama, on Monday, rejected uncertified documents sought to be tendered by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) in the trial of ex- Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal. The EFCC arraigned Lawal, along side his brother Hamidu, a director of Rholavision Engineering Limited; an employee of the company, Sulaiman Abubakar and the Managing Director of Josmon Technologies Limited, Apeh Monday. They are charged with 10 count bordering on conspiracy and fraud. Also joined are two companies, Rholavision Engineering Limited and Josmon Technologies Limited. Justice Jude Okeke ruling on the admissibilty of the documents held that the essence of certification was to ensure accuracy of documents tendered in evidence. Airtel Africa to list simultaneously on NSE, LSE.

 Airtel office Airtel Africa Ltd, a unit of India’s Bharti Airtel Ltd, says it intends to list its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) at the same time as the London Stock Exchange (NSE). The company said on Monday that although the listing on the NSE was on, it had set a price range of 80 to 100 pence per share for its planned Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the LSE. The company said that conditional dealings in its shares were expected to begin on or around June 28 and the final pricing would be announced the same day. The IPO for the London listing is expected to raise 595 million pounds ($749.05 million) from the issuance of about 595.2 million to 744 million new shares. The company said the price range values it between 3.01 billion pounds and 3.62 billion pounds. (Reuters/NAN)

Security operatives in Malaysia have apprehended over eighty Nigerians engaging in fraud and cultism in the country.   Nigerians in Malaysia arrested for fraud and cultism   Over 80 Nigerians said to be living illegally in Malaysia were arrested in two raids in Kajang and Puchong last night June 16th.   The raids by the Immigration Department started at 10.30pm in Kajang following complaints that most of the Nigerians and other Africans residing in the area were involved in different social vices which includes Cultism and Cybercrime.   Malaysian Immigration director-general, Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud, who supervised the arrest, said that several department officers were injured during the operation after wrestling with illegals who refused to coperate.   According to Khairul Dzaimee, there were 118 foreigners at the first raid at an apartment area with 90 illegals from Nigeria (78), the Philippines (six), Pakistan (one), India (one) and...
