A gunman is said to have opened fire as people left the mosque in Brest French media reports say that the gunman is on the run with two people injured Two people were shot and wounded outside a mosque in Brest, western France, on Thursday, police said. Brest Prosecutor Jean-Philippe Recappe said the gunman opened fire as people left the mosque in the city's Pontanezen neigbourhood. The men are said to have been injured in the leg. According to French media reports, one of the men injured was a controversial imam called Rachid El Jay. The victims were treated at the scene and sprayed with water because of the extreme temperatures of the current French heatwave, it is reported. Public broadcaster France 3 reported the gunman was on the run. It was not immediately clear whether the shooting was religiously motivated, a settling of scores, or motivated by other unknown factors, Recappe told Reuters. Police have urged people to remain 'prudent'.
