Shiites’ to defy ban, spokesman says protests continue

Ibrahim El-Zakzaky: leader of the Shiites A spokesman of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, whose members are known as Shiites, has reacted to the labelling of the movement as a ‘terrorist group’ by a Federal High Court in Abuja. The spokesman who was not identified by Reuters, said although the group has not received any formal notice from the court, protests calling for the release of the leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky would continue. He said plans to ban the movement had been considered since 2015 and it was not surprised by the move. A Nigerian court on Friday granted the government permission to label the group a terrorist organisation and also ban it. Justice Nkeonye Maha issued the order in a ruling on an exparte motion brought by the “Attorney-General of the Federation” before the court on Thursday. Fulani’s seasonal migration to South should be banned – Ganduje

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje on Saturday said the best way to improve the living standard of Fulani people was by banning their seasonal migration to the central and southern parts of Nigeria. “No better way to improve their lives if you don’t prevent their migration from the north to the central and southern parts of Nigeria. “Fulani migration should be banned, otherwise they would continue to suffer and the security challenges in the country would continue to exist,” he said. Ganduje also said states where Fulani were not indigenes would not be required to implement the RUGA settlement initiative. Buhari sends message to family of late Akinloye Oyebanji

President .Buhari: President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sorrow at the passage of veteran sports journalist, Akinloye Oyebanji, aged 62. According to a statement by the President’s spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina in Abuja on Saturday, the President condoled with Oyebanji’s family, friends and colleagues, particularly at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). The president noted that the late Oyebanji had worked for 35 years at the NTA, making his mark as a sportscaster. President Buhari also recalled that the deceased was very good at his art, and would be sorely missed by the sporting community. He prayed that Oyebanji’s soul finds eternal rest, and that God would comfort all those that mourned him. Oyebanji, who had been ill for some months, passed on at National Hospital, Abuja, on Saturday morning after protracted battle with heart failure.

BUA International drags driver to Court for stealing 4 vehicles

The management of BUA International Limited located at Church Gate Street, Victoria Island, Lagos has dragged its Chief driver, Austin Okwe before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing four vehicle valued at N4, 500, 000. The vehicles are: Toyota Corolla with Reg. Number EPE 659 BO, valued at N1m; Kia Cerato with number SMK 77 BS valued at N700, 000 and Nissan Urvan with number EPE 455 AS valued at N450, 000. The accused, a resident of Olokodano Street, Okokomaiko from Cross River State was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate Court on a three-count of stealing by conversion. Police counsel, Reuben Solomon told the court that the accused committed the offence in 2017 at BUA International Limited at Victoria Island, Lagos. Solomon inform the court that the accused used his position as the chief driver to steal four vehicles entrusted in his care by his employer. Controversial former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned the proscription of the Shiites Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), saying it is the evil agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari. Police recovers 500 animals from bandits in 4 hours gun duel, no arrest

The Police Command in Katsina State said on Saturday that it had recovered 500 animals from bandits in Safana Local Government Area of the state. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Gambo Isah, and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Katsina. “A group of bandits numbering 200 on motorcycles with dangerous weapons invaded and attacked residents of both Sabon-Garin-Baure and Baure communities simultaneously two days ago. “The DPO Safana immediately led teams of Operations Puff Adder to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel that lasted for about four hours. “The police succeeded in dislodging the hoodlums and chased them out of the villages,” Isah said. A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has suggested that the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government has decided to punish Nigerians with forex restriction on milk and diary products for rejecting his administration’s RUGA project. It will be recalled that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele had that the apex bank will place a ban on the importation of milk and other dairy products into the country. Emefiele stated this at the end of the bi-monthly Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
