Mass Defection Hits APC In Akwa Ibom By Mod - [ Update ] About 20,000 former members of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State on Monday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party. Those who left the APC included units, wards and chapters’ officers from the 31 local government areas of the state. They were received into the PDP at a ceremony held in Uyo, the state capital. The state governor, Udom Emmanuel, commended the new members for joining the PDP which he described as the only grass roots party in the country. While describing the new members’ decision as being about the soul of state, the governor urged them to always stand in defence of the state. He said, “This is unprecedented in the history of our state. “What you are doing today is not about me, it is not about the party chairman, or any other person. Governor Ambode approves N10m compensation to slain LASTMA officer’s family By Mod - [ Update ] Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has announced the approval of 10 Million Naira compensation to the family of the officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who was recently killed by a FSARS Officer over a traffic dispute. He made the revelation, on Sunday, while commiserating with LASTMA over the killing of Mr Rotimi Adeyemo. Governor Ambode said the incident was one too many, revealing that a total of 18 officers were lost to such unfortunate situation, and 24 permanently incapacitated in various hospitals in the last one year. While Lagosians have commended the gesture, they have also asked for disciplinary measures to be taken against sars officials to prevent future occurence. Jubilations In Ekiti As Court Dismisses Suit Against Fayemi By Mod - [ Update ] Governor Kayode Fayemi Jubilations broke out in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Monday as the Ado Ekiti Division of the Federal High Court dismissed the suit filed by former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, to challenge the eligibility of Governor Kayode Fayemi to contest in the July 14 governorship election in the state. Fayemi’s supporters and well-wishers gathered at the pavilion and Fajuyi Park to celebrate the court victory amid drumming and dancing. Oni, who was an All Progressives Congress aspirant in the election, in the suit, challenged Fayemi’s eligibility on the grounds that the governor did not resign his appointment as a minister 30 days before the party primaries and as well that he was indicted by the Justice Silas Oyewole-led commission of inquiry last year. Senate Pays N85.5million As Dariye's Allowances In Prison By Mod - [ Update ] Six months after his conviction by a Federal Capital Territory High Court, The Nigerian Senate still pays Senator Joshua Dariye allowances to the tune of N85.5million. In a report by The Punch, Dariye is still receiving the N750, 000 salary and N13.5m monthly running cost from the National Assembly. Investigations by The PUNCH revealed that Dariye, who represents Plateau-Central Senatorial District, was still receiving the allowances because his seat had yet to be declared vacant by the leadership of the National Assembly. Dariye, who was governor of Plateau State from 1999 to 2007, was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and convicted by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of an FCT High Court for embezzling N1.162bn.
