Biodun Shobanjo To Bag Brandcom Awards’ Hall Of Fame

Doyen of advertising in Nigeria and Chairman, Troyka Holdings, Biodun Shobanjo will be honoured at the maiden edition of the Brandcom Awards with a prestigious ‘Hall of Fame’ recognition, the biggest honour for the night. The event will hold at the Shell Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos on Friday May 24th, 2019 by 6pm. Brandcom Awards is the celebration of the exploits and achievements of brands, agencies and notable players with remarkable impacts in the brands and marketing industry. Anambra resident doctors continue strike

Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Awka, says there is no going back to the industrial action embarked upon by members. Dr Nonso Aniagboso, Chairman of the branch disclosed position of the resident doctors in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Tuesday. Aniagbaso said the position was reached at its congress where members unanimously rejected the outcome of its leadership’s engagement with the state government last week. NAN reports ARD, COOUTH branch on May 13 commenced indefinite industrial strike over alleged poor working conditions. The chairman said the association would continue with the strike until their demands were met. Atlanta ’96 Gold medal winning coach, Bonfere Jo, on Tuesday made a surprise visit to the screening venue of the Channels Television’s International Kids Cup. Bonfrere said his mission to the Agege Stadium in Lagos is to encourage the young and upcoming stars before the commencement of the matches. The celebrated coach dressed on a white shirt and a black trouser to match exchanged pleasantries with the young players, asking them the clubs they were fans of. The ’96 Gold medal winning coach is optimistic that some of the young players will make it to the senior national team. His visit comes as officials were busy screening and accrediting participatory schools for Season 11 of the international tournament. Didier Deschamps has announced his France squad for Les Bleus' upcoming Euro 2020 qualifying games, with Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet one of three players to have earned their first national team call-up. The France boss has also handed Leo Dubois and Mike Maignan their first involvements with the national team. There are a few surprising omissions, however, the most notable being Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette, who has been snubbed in favour of Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder and Chelsea frontman Olivier Giroud. Lacazette won Arsenal's player of the season award, hitting 19 goals and recording 13 assists across all competitions to help the Gunners to the Europa League final, but has been consistently left out by Deschamps. A medical doctor who died after a tragic accident claimed his life during his NYSC, has been laid to rest. Dr Stephen Obinna Ikeh Dr Stephen Obinna Ikeh, a medical doctor whose death shook everyone who knew him after he was killed in a tricycle accident during his NYSC in Maiduguri, Borno state, has been laid to rest. Dr Stephen Obinna Ikeh was quite popular as he was an exceptional student and medical doctor. He was also financially responsible for his parents and siblings. Sadly, he was involved in a fatal accident that took his life. His funeral was held on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Below are photos from the funeral:

Operation Puff Adder: Police Arrest 70 Kidnap Suspects In Katsina

The police in Katsina State have arrested 70 kidnap suspects in the state. The suspects were paraded on Tuesday, at the Command Headquarters in the state capital by the Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba. Buba told journalists that the suspects are notorious for carrying out kidnapping activities at various locations in the state. He added that they were arrested during the implementation of Operation Puff Adder a special anti-kidnapping operation recently launched by the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu. Buba noted that since the inauguration of the Operation Puff Adder, the police has recorded some achievements. The operation which led to the arrest of the 70 kidnap suspects comprise the IGP Special Task Forces, SARS Patrol Teams, Counter Terrorism Units (CTU), and Police Mobile Force (PMF). A promising medical student has taken his own life after plunging into a river in Bayelsa state. Uzakah   Friends and family members have been left in a state of shock after a 300-level medical student of the Niger Delta University, NDU, allegedly killed himself by plunging into Amassoma River in Bayelsa State.   It was gathered that Uzakah Timi Ebiweni, took the decision to end it all, after failing his MBBS exams. Out of the 169 students in his class, 50 failed, according to reports.   Timi allegedly started giving hints via his WhatsApp stories by initially posting a candle light and then changing it to the picture of a candle with its light blown off.

VIENNA -- Three-time Formula One world champion Niki Lauda, who won two of his titles after a horrific crash that left him with serious burns and went on to become a prominent figure in the aviation industry, has died. He was 70. The Austria Press Agency quoted Lauda's family as saying he "passed away peacefully" on Monday. Walter Klepetko, a doctor who performed a lung transplant on Lauda last year, said Tuesday: "Niki Lauda has died. I have to confirm that." "His unique successes as a sportsman and entrepreneur are and remain unforgettable," the family statement said. "His tireless drive, his straightforwardness and his courage remain an example and standard for us all. Away from the public gaze he was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
