2019 election: APC, PDP, UDP guber candidates shun peace accord The Taraba Governorship Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, United Democratic Party, UDP, and the All Progressives Party, APC, failed to show up at the peace accord signing ceremony. The candidates are Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba (PDP), Sen. Aisha Alhassan, the immediate past Minister of Women Affairs (UDP), and Alhaji Sani Danladi (APC). The signing of the peace accord took place on Thursday at the Police Command headquarters in Jalingo. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 14 other candidates, including Mr Kefas Sule of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), who is contesting on the platform of the All Blended Party (ABP) signed the peace pact. Strike: FG’s offer in resolving our demands still far from expectations – ASUU The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that the offer from the Federal Government towards resolving the demands of ASUU as contained in the 2017 Memorandum of Action (MoA) is still fluid and far from expectations. ASUU, in Strike Bulletin 8 signed by its President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, a copy of which was obtained by DAILY POST on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, asked its members to await rapidly unfolding developments from the strike. As a union, ASUU said that it will not participate in the conduct of 2019 elections but its members may voluntarily participate. Ogunyemi, in the bulletin, said the proposal from government towards resolving the demands of ASUU as contained in the 2017 MoA is still fluid and far from expectations. Recruitment: PSC receives 294,851 applications as portal closes Jan. 11 The Police Service Commission (PSC) says it has received 294,851 applications in the ongoing recruitment of 10,000 constables  into the Nigeria Police Force as the portal closes on Jan. 11. The  commission had received 242, 455 applications as at Jan. 3, four weeks after the recruitment portal was opened. Recall  President Muhammadu Buhari recently approved the recruitment of 10,000 police constables to beef-up the strength of the force. A statement by the commission’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr Ikechukwu Ani  on Thursday in Abuja, said the applications came over five  weeks after the recruitment portal was opened on Nov. 30, 2018. Transfer: Man United wins race ahead of Liverpool to sign Villarreal star Former Premier League champions, Manchester United have won the race ahead of Liverpool to sign Villarreal defender, Adrian Corral. United and Liverpool are both interested in signing Carral in recent weeks. According to Spanish outlet, Super Deporte, United are on the verge of completing the signing of the youngster from the La Liga side. 2019 Polls: Buhari Encouraging Under-Age Voting — Afenifere Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Wednesday said President Muhammadu Buhari is encouraging under-age voting by not signing the Electoral Act passed by the National Assembly into law. The group said the only way the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can prevent the incidence of under-age voting in the 2019 general elections was to insist on the use of card reader for all registered voters. According to INEC, 13.5 million Nigerians voted manually without biometric accreditation in the 2015 presidential election. The data shows that President Muhammadu Buhari, who was then candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won in nine of the 10 states where people voted manually. Inaugurating the committee recently at the Government House, Maiduguri, Shettima said that the panel headed by Yerima Saleh, an ex-Head of Service (HoS), is saddled with the responsibility of uncovering the problems besetting pensioners’ documentation and payments. He said though the Workers Biometrics Committee cleared 9,000 pensioners, while 500 pensioners have pending cases that withheld payments of their pensions. According to him, the panel has representatives of stakeholders that included Mohammed Abdullahi, Ali Grema, and Mai Bukar Galtimari, who represented the National Union of Pensioners (NUP). Forbes releases 2018 list of Africa's Richest billionaires, Aliko Dangote retains position as richest African for the eight time followed by Mike Adenuga  Forbes magazine has released its 2018 list of Africa's Richest billionaires. Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote retained his position as the richest man in Africa for eight years straight. He, however, lost almost $2bn compared to his last year’s worth. According to the list, Aliko's networth currently stands at $10.3 billion. Telecommunication's magnate, Mike Adenuga, was number 2 on the list with a $9.2 billion worth. Folorunsho Alakija was one of the billionaires who suffered a drop in their net worth between last year and this year, as she held No 19 on the 20-man list. She is currently worth $1.1 billion.
