President Buhari today in Abuja, assured Nigerians that he will put in all efforts to ensure the best for the country and the citizens when he begins a second term in office on May 29, 2019, while appreciating all those that voted him during the elections. Court acquits man of defiling his 8-year- old stepdaughter

Justice Sybil Nwaka of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Monday acquitted a  sales engineer, Happiness Essien, charged with defiling his 8-year-old child daughter (name withheld). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 31-year-old Essien, who has been remanded in prison since May 25, 2016, was acquitted of a one-count charge of defilement mainly due to the absence of the alleged victim to testify during the trial. Setting Essien free, Justice Nwaka said: “I find the defendant not guilty of the offence of defilement or sexual assault, I set him free, he is thereby discharged and acquitted. “It is the resolve of the state to ensure victory not only for the victim but also the defendant.” Reacting to Essien’s acquittal,  Mr Babajide Boye, the lead state prosecutor, emphasized the importance of the testimonies of complainants in sexual and domestic violence in securing a conviction. Any individuals found guilty of the offenses will be stoned to death, according to a new penal code. The punishment will be “witnessed by a group of Muslims.” The country’s strict new laws were announced in 2014, and have been rolled out gradually. 2019 Mock: No excuse for lateness will be entertained, JAMB warns candidates

Lagos – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will not condone lateness by candidates to its 2019 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), scheduled for Monday, April 1. JAMB The board’s Head, Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos. A total of 157,631 candidates have been scheduled to sit for the optional examination in some accredited Computer Based Centres (CBT) across the country.
