Minimum wage now N30,000 as Buhari assents to bill

President Muhammadu Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law the Minimum Wage Repeal and Re-Enactment Act, 2019. By this act, the new minimum wage is now N30,000. The President assented to the Act on Thursday in Abuja, mandating all employers of labour across the country to pay workers a minimum of N30,000 monthly wage. The National Assembly had submitted the minimum wage bill to the President since March 27. The bill approving N30,000 as the new national minimum wage was passed by both chambers of National Asaembly before they went on break for the 2019 general elections. Earlier in the week, workers in the Federal Capital Territory had begged the President to sign the minimum wage bill. Some of the workers had expressed concerns over the delay in signing the bill into law, adding that it was causing them unnecessary anxiety. GOLD TRADE– THE Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Abubakar Bwari has disclosed that Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, UAE, have agreed to scale up gold trade for mutual benefits. More than half women’s World Cup tickets sold: organisers

Women’s World Cup– With 50 days to go to the kickoff of the women’s World Cup in France more than half the match tickets have been sold, FIFA said on Thursday. FIFA Women World Cup The governing body of world football said in a statement that they were “proud to announce that ticket sales for the competition are smashing records, with over 720,000 sold so far”. FIFA said that seven games were already sold out including the opening match, between France and South Korea at Parc des Princes in Paris on June 7, the semifinals on July 2 and 3, and the final on July 7, all in Lyon. Nollywood producers, distributors advised to shun films that debase societal values

Industry stakeholders have called on producers and distributors in the Nigerian movie industry to eschew films and video works that erode values that define the African people.
