Osun United coach resigns after losing to Giant Brillars FC

Samson Unuanel, the Head Coach of Osun United Football Club of Osogbo on Saturday announced his resignation from his position at the club. His resignation came after his team lost 2-4 to Giant Brillars FC in a week 5 match of the Nigeria National League (NNL) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. Tajudeen Ahmad, the club’s Media Officer, said in a statement in Osogbo that the coach, through verbal communication, said he was resigning. “He said this was because he believed that he lost the away game, which his team was leading 2-0 in the first half, because some people sabotaged his efforts,” he said. Ahmad explained that Osun United dominated the game and were leading 2-0 in the first half without pressure from the hosts, before conceding 4 goals in the second half. Adekunle Fajuyi, first military governor of Western Region, was assassinated in a counter coup, led mainly by northern officers. As part of the activities lined up for the anniversary, there will be a lecture and discussion session at the International Conference Centre of the University of Ibadan the same day. The lecture, entitled “Fajuyi and the Politics of Remembrance” will be delivered by Professor Niyi Osundare who teaches at the University of New Orleans, USA. Osundare is from Ekiti, the land of rolling hills and lush vegetation that also produced the late Fajuyi. That the two are of the same stock, readers should look forward to an interesting lecture on loyalty and integrity. Melaye and Makamashi Controversial Senator, Dino Melaye is certainly gunning for the Kogi governorship seat in November as he has hired the services of Fulani singers to boost his ambition. A video on Melaye’s Instagram page showed the singers singing, dancing and chanting his praises, calling him out to be their next governor in November. The lead singer is Teema Makamashi. The singers were branded with shirts and cap bearing Melaye’s name, while intermittently, the lawmaker’s photo will scroll by. Ramadan: Prices of tomato, pepper increase by 60% in Lagos

Tomatoes Ahead of Ramadan, prices of tomato and pepper have soared by 60 per cent in some markets in Lagos. A survey conducted at Mile 12, Oke Odo, Oyingbo and Iddo markets, Lagos, reveals that a 40 kilogramme (kg) basket of tomato, which cost N5,000 two weeks ago has risen to N12,000, NAN reports. Similarly, a 50 kg basket of bell pepper (tatashe) has risen to N12, 000 from its previous price of N6,000; 50 kg Chilli pepper (sombo) costs N9,000 as against N5,000, while of a basket of scotch bonnet pepper (rodo) costs N13,500 as against N9000. Alhaji Haruna Mohammed, Market Leader, Mile 12 Perishable Traders Association, attributed the price increase to off-season effect and cost of transportation. He, however, maintained that the prices of the food items were still relatively cheaper compared to the same period two years ago. Former Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has given Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi a new name, describing the Argentine as ‘the God of Football.’ This follows Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Liverpool on Wednesday. Messi struck twice in the second half of the Champions League semi-final first leg at Camp Nou as Barcelona beat Liverpool 3-0. DSS arrest 59 commercial sex workers in Calabar

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River Fifty-nine commercial sex workers have been arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) in Calabar, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. Mr Ilupeju Adebayo, Director of the DSS Command in Cross River, who disclosed this to newsmen on Saturday in Calabar, said those arrested were picked up around 2:15 a.m on Saturday. Those arrested, made up of 43 girls and 16 men, were picked up at the Peace Garden Hotel and Papsi Place, located along the Murtala Mohammed highway in Calabar. Adebayo revealed that there was a cartel responsible for luring the girls and making them to swear to an oath of secrecy. The oath involves a promise not to abscond no matter what or divulge information about the business. “We got an intelligence report and swung into action. We have been on the matter for months. Man plunges to death in 1000m mine

Mine digger. Photo: iharare.com A 48-year-old man met his end after plunging down the Redwing Mine main shaft believed to me 1 000 metres deep as he was trying to steal gold ore. Njabulo Ncube, of No.76H Old West Penhalonga, Zimbabwe who is believed to be a former worker at the gold mining company, had his body retrieved from the shaft by the Redwing Mine rescue team and the police. Police have confirmed the incident. “Njabulo Ncube fell into the mine on April 24 and was retrieved from the shaft by a rescue team from the mine and the police. He was found on April 27,” said the police Redwing Mine manager Mr Stanford Magomo refused to comment on the incident.
