Oil Well fire: Ondo Assembly summons Chevron

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) The Ondo State House of Assembly has directed the Chevron Nigeria Limited to come and address the house on its inability to quench the fire incident raging at the Ojumole Oil Well in Ugbo llaje. The Speaker of the House, Bamidele Oleyelogun, who gave the directive, said the company should appear before the house on May 14. The fire incident occurred on April 18, 2019 at the Ojumole Oil Well in Ugbo, llaje Local Government area of the state. The House had set up a-Six man Ad-hoc Committee on Tuesday during its plenary, directing all stakeholders in the affected communities to appear before it on Thursday. This is to address the main cause of the fire incident at the Oil Well, its security implications, economic effects and lasting solutions to the incident. ABUJA – THE Organized Labour on Thursday declared total war against the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige over the attack by suspected thugs on union members that protested in his private residence in Abuja on Wednesday. Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige Labour in its resolution read by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC Ayuba Wabba directed workers to attack the Labour Minister and any member of his family anywhere they were sighted. Proposed Maritime University: Senate rejects Bill

Nigerian Senate The Senate on Thursday rejected a bill proposing the establishment of Maritime University of Nigeria, Lokoja in Kogi. The rejection followed presentation of the bill by the sponsor, Sen. Isaac Alfa (PDP-Kogi). The bill, which was listed for second reading, was rejected by the lawmakers through voice vote. While making their contributions, the lawmakers had advised the sponsor of the bill to withdraw it following several reasons including the need for more work to be done. Alfa however, refused to withdraw the bill, saying he had done a lot of work on it. He urged the lawmakers not to attach geographical location and other sentiments to the bill. A court judgement, according to the Akinole-Oshiun family, had awarded ownership of 398 acres of landed property in the community to them and had gone to take possession. President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Godwin Emefiele for a second term as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), TheCable understands. Emefiele was first appointed in 2014 by former president Goodluck Jonathan and was retained when Buhari came to office in 2015. TheCable understands that the letter for the tenure renewal was signed by Buhari on Wednesday and has now been sent to the senate. Woman arraigned for sending fake bank alert of N463,350

Court gavel A 27-year-old applicant, Irene Ayuba, who allegedly sent fake bank alerts of N463, 350 to a businesswoman, on Thursday appeared in a Wuse Zone 6, Chief Magistrates’ Court. The police charged Ayuba, 27, who resides in House 42, NNPC Quarters Utako, Thuja villie, Abuja, with cheating. The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Omeji Noel, told the court that Ms Chinda Tonia of 52 Lobito Crescent Wuse II Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station in May 1. Noel alleged that the defendant sent a fake bank alert text message for some items she purchased from the complainant. He said that the defendant ordered designer handbags and gold and silver accessories amounting to N217,800. The prosecutor said the defendant sent fake bank alert statement through an Instagram account to the complainant notifying her of the payment.
