Breaking: Appeal Court strikes out suit against Buhari

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, on Friday struck out a suit seeking to nullify the candidacy of President Muhammadu Buhari on academic grounds. The court in a judgement said the application was brought outside the specified time for pre-election matters. A three-member panel of the court let by Justice Atinuke Akomolafe-Wilson had reserved judgment for Friday after entertaining arguments from the appellants on Wednesday. The applicants, Kalu Kalu, Labaran Ismail and Hassy Kyari el-Kuris, had approached the appellate court after a Federal High Court dismissed their application on the grounds that it was brought outside the specified period of time. Abubakar Danjibrin at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji in Kaduna State. The officers were decorated by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mrs Nuratu Batagarawa. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the accelerated promotion of the officers on Tuesday on the recommendation of Buratai. Nigeria’s billionaire businessmen Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr Femi Otedola have promised the Super Eagles $75,000 for every goal scored in their remaining two matches at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). While Dangote made a pledge of $50,000 to the team for every goal in their two matches at the championship, Otedola promised $25,000 for every goal. A statement issued by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) comes on the heels of Super Eagles’ impressive performance against South Africa in the quarter-finals encounter of the competition. The game, played Wednesday night, saw the Super Eagles defeat the Bafana Bafana 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals. jacob zuma's son in court room A South African court on Friday found Duduzane Zuma, son of former president Jacob Zuma, not guilty of culpable homicide and negligent driving over a fatal car crash that killed a woman in February 2014. The court said that the prosecutors had failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt. Duduzan’s Porsche sports car collided with a minibus taxi on a highway in Johannesburg in February 2014, killing a woman and injuring at least one other. The defendant, who said he lost control of the car after a puddle caused him to aquaplane, initially avoided prosecution after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) decided not to charge him.
