Osinbajo, Okowa nominated for Niger Delta awards

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta are to be given Niger Delta Leadership Awards 2018 by Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper, a multi-media organisation. The award ceremony will hold at Transcorp Hotel in Abuja on Aug. 8. Mr Jacob Abai, the Publisher of the newspaper, said in Lagos on Sunday that the awards were to reward excellence in governance. “GbaramatuVoice wishes to announce the name of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as winner of Niger Delta Peace Laureate of the year award for going out of his way in sustaining peace in Niger Delta through his lectures, townhall meetings, consultations and discourses. “His Excellency, Gov. Population clock not reliable to determine population figure – UNFPA

Mr Osaretin Adonri, Assistant Representative, UN Population Fund (UNFPA) says population clock is not a reliable indicator to guarantee accurate population figure of any nation. He told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that “population clock is only an electronic projection that is functional based on programming.” He said that population clock all over the world was not used to ascertain accurate number of  population but based on speculation. “Population clock cannot give you accurate population of any country because it is based on projections. “Nigeria does not have it because I have not seen it in the population commission.” The UNPFA official restated the call for census in the country, which he said was paramount for population accuracy and for effective planning. The late President Nelson Mandela of South Africa remains a household name globally because of his numerous outstanding achievements, impacts and legacies. Mandela, fondly called Madiba by his countrymen, ruled South Africa from 1994 to 1999. Mandela, an anti-apartheid campaigner, freedom fighter, and the first black and democratically-elected President of South Africa, was born on July 18, 1918, in the village of Mvezo in Umtata, then part of South Africa’s Cape Province. He died on Dec. 5, 2013, in his home in Johannesburg, with his burial on Dec. 15, 2013, in Qunu in the Eastern Cape, attracting leaders from all parts of the world. An Ohio courtroom erupted into utter chaos when a former judge was sentenced to six months in jail for using her position to help her brother - as supporters erupted in anger and the shocked judge had to be physically dragged out of the room. Former Hamilton County Juvenile Court Judge Tracie Hunter was sentenced to six months in jail on Monday in Cincinnati for a 2014 conviction of felony interfering with a contract. Hunter, who was elected in 2010 and suspended four years later, illegally passed her youth corrections officer brother confidential documents as he faced a disciplinary hearing and his job was on the line in 2013.  On Monday, Hunter seemed to be paralyzed by shock upon hearing the sentence and with her legs locked straight, was dramatically dragged out of the court room by an officer. James Bond star David Hedison has died at the age of 92, in Los Angeles on Thursday. The American actor portrayed CIA agent Feliz Leiter alongside Roger Moore in Live And Let Die in 1973 and with Timothy Dalton in Licence To Kill in 1989 in the 007 installments. Hedison passed away with his daughters Alexandra and Serena at his side, a representative for the family confirmed.
