Nigerian govt deceives citizens, raises petrol price above N200

  The Nigerian government has increased the pump price of petrol to N212.61 a litre, less than two weeks after assuring the nation there would be no hike. The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) announced late Thursday that the retail price for a litre of petrol for the month will be between N209.61 and N212.61. The ex-depot price, which is the amount sold by fuel depot owners to marketers, will be N206.42, while the landing cost stands at N189.61 per litre, the agency said. The announcement comes amid a partial scarcity of fuel that has lingered for weeks. There had been concerns the government, which says it has deregulated the sector and no longer pays subsidy, would raise rates as crude oil prices have seen a rebound in the global market. The state-owned NNPC, which regulates the sector and is the sole importer of refined petrol, however, assured there was no such plan for February and March. This comes barely 24 hours after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who visited the scene of the accident on Monday morning, promised to support those affected by the crash. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the reconstruction of the affected fence and buildings at 14 and 16, Salvation Road, Opebi in Ikeja commenced on Monday morning, following the governor’s pledge. Sanwo-Olu in company with the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins, and the Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Oluwafemi Damilola Oke-Osanyitolu conducted a post-disaster assessment of the crash site. 100 kidnap victims rescued from hideout around Kogi-Nasarawa boundary

About 100 people said to be victims of kidnappers who terrorised communities around Kogi-Nasarawa boundary and travellers who passed through that area for over eight years, have been rescued by troops. The kidnap victims who are mostly women and children were rescued from Darusalam by troops of the 177 battalion and the army records, Lokoja. According to Mohammed Onogwu, the chief press secretary to Governor Yahaya Bello, the camp located at Ittu is home to about 2,000 kidnappers and some Boko Haram members. Ghana replies Nigeria, says 700 Nigerians deported for criminal activities

  Ghanaian authorities have responded to several allegations made by the Nigerian government through information minister Lai Mohammed, over the treatment of Nigerian citizens in the country. Mr Mohammed had on Friday accused the Ghanaian government of sabotaging its diplomatic relations with Nigeria. In  the statement published by PREMIUM TIMES , the Nigerian information minister accused the country of supporting incessant arrest and deportation of its citizens. The groom is the son of a former lawmaker, Alhaji Mahmud Sani Sha'aban, who represented Zaria in the House of Representatives from May 2003 to May 2007.
