Boko Haram: Over 30,000 return to IDP camps in Maiduguri following fresh threat
The people who fled their individual homes in Baga, Monguno and Mairari have been registered in Gubio, Madinatu, Bakassi, Chezcoan, Mogolis, NYSC, Ummarari(new camp) and Railway terminus (new camp) in Maiduguri.
According to official reports from the camps, 6,197 households, about 20,022 individuals from Baga are currently at the Teachers village camp along Pompomari ward, while 1,376 households, about 4,278 individuals also from Baga arrived at Gubio camp.
At the Madinatu IDP camp, 338 households, about 1,886 individuals from Baga were registered and 460 households, about 1969 individuals from Monguno/Mairari were housed at Bakassi IDP camp along Maiduguri, Damboa road.
The IDP camps at Chezcoan and Mogolis has received 155 households, about 606 and 13 households, about 515 individuals respectively, who fled their homes in Baga to Maiduguri, the state capital, following windows open for them as a result of threats by Boko Haram in the area, which informed the massive exodus of people from the area.
Our correspondent also gathered that NYSC camp has 20 households, about 268 individuals new arrivals, while Ummarari ( new camp) has 15 households, about 145 individuals from Baga.
Also from Baga, those who fled to IDP camps in Maiduguri and are housed at the EYN camp are 18 households about 133 individuals and Railway terminus (new camp) are 38 households about 219 individuals respectively.
Camp officials and staff of the international organisation working across Internally Displaced Persons camp said that they have been receiving new arrivals in camps across the state since the resurgence of terrorists activities in the northern Borno, particularly in December last year and January, 2019.
