Buhari supporters, youths shut down businesses activities in Kaduna as they celebrate president’s victory
Following the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the just concluded presidential electionon, some supporters and youth took to the streets of Kaduna, celebrating his victory.
Most of them who came in large number from different directions headed to Murtala Square to show their solidarity.
Most of them interviewed by DAILY POST said they did not know what they were celebrating, while some said, “I was told to follow my friends to Murtala Square. I have been trekking from Tudun Wada not knowing what l am celebrating for.”
Another young boy of about 10 years who identified himself as Usman said, “One of my friends called me that they were organizing celebration for President Muhammadu Buhari, though l don’t know him and l do not know what the celebration is all about, but l am together with friends going to Murtala Square to see what is happening.”
One of the APC supporters who also gave his name as Mohammed Bala, said, “We are celebrating the victory of the party at the presidential and National Assembly elections and l am sure that the party will come out victorious in the governorship and the House of Assembly elections coming up in some days.
“APC will continue to be victorious in the north no matter who becomes its flagbearer. So long as Mahammadu Buhari is alive and in the party, we will continue to vote the party to power.”
DAILY POST observed that business activities have not picked up in Kaduna metropolis since the presidential and National Assembly elections as most shops have remained closed as at the time of filing this story.
A source who sought anonymity said the closure of most shops by their owners may not be unconnected to the usual uprising that normally follows every election in the state leading to killings and destruction of property.
He said, “You can see for yourself that most shops that are closed are owned by Igbos, who are always targeted whenever things of this nature occur. Most of them are still observing to see what will happen before making any attempt to open their shops for business.
“You cannot blame the shop owners for taking such actions since they are always at the receiving end. This time around, people are very conscious of any eventuality because even the movement of people is being restricted after the presidential and National Assembly elections.”
DAILY POST also reports that only a few people were seen in the main Kaduna market.
