Immigration Begins Issuance Of 10-Year-Valid Passport

The issuance of the Nigeria Passport with 10-year validity has begun, The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) started issuing it on Monday. The 64-page passport is produced with enhanced polycarbonate. It is also embedded with the National Identity Number. The new passport costs N70,000. Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari launched the new passport on January 15, 2019. The new document is part of the passport reform approved by the Federal Government to improve the quality and security of the travel document as well as reduce the incidence of damage, counterfeit, and forgery. According to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), it is compulsory for passport applicants to have the Nigeria Identification Number (NIN). To achieve that, the management of NIS  had set up a desk at the passport office where individuals could register for NIN. Some nurses in Calabar have reportedly beaten up a woman who was in labour because the woman could not afford N20,000 bill. Disclosing this via his official tweeter handle, Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant to President, Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, said that the Federal Government has secured her release. His words, “The Federal Government has secured the release of Zainab Habibu Aliyu who was arrested in Saudi Arabia for alleged drug trafficking. Details soon from Ministry of Foreign Affairs.” Recall that Buhari had yesterday directed Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation, to immediately intervene and ensure her freedom. Boko Haram kills 21 villagers in Adamawa

Boko Haram fighters killed 21 people when they stormed into a village in northeastern Nigeria and set it on fire, residents said Tuesday. The militants, packed into four trucks and flanked by gunmen on motorbikes, swept into the village of Kuda in Adamawa state late on Monday afternoon, firing as they came. Villagers fled the attack but returned on Tuesday to bury the dead left amid the charred wreckage of their homes. “They opened fire on residents, killing 21 people,” said community leader Maina Ularamu. “They burnt several homes.” Ularamu lost three brothers-in-law in the attack. “Two-thirds of the village has been burnt,” said resident Paul Waramulu, speaking to AFP by telephone from the village, giving the same toll of those killed. Waramulu said the fighters had looted food supplies before setting fire to buildings. John Singleton American film director and screenwriter, John Singleton has died after suffering from a stroke. The Oscar-nominated director, popularly known for his films including Boyz N The Hood (1991) and his remake of detective movie, Shaft (2000) was 51-years-old. Cyril Ramaphosa: South African President South Africa’s Western Cape provincial government on Sunday accused National Police Minister, Bheki Cele of violating the Constitution by ignoring the security concerns in the province. Power installation Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), says it has restored normal bulk transmission of electricity to its Apo transmission substation after a fire outbreak on one of its 45MVA 132/33kV power transformers on Sunday. The burnt 45MVA 132/33kv power transformer feeds electricity to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) 33kV feeders. Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager Public Affairs in a statement on Monday said the fire was put off by the combined efforts of the Federal, FCT and NNPC fire service. She, however, said it was still early for TCN to determine if the burnt transformer could be salvaged. Mbah said that the fire resulted from a direct fault from one of AEDC’s 33kV feeders which had a history of incessant trippings, noting that the 33kV lacked protection. NUPENG tells Buhari to end reliance on imported petroleum products

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to, in his second term, work towards ending, “Nigeria’s continued dependence on imported petroleum products.” President Buhari The call was part of the communique issued by the President of NUPENG, Mr Williams Akporeha, at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Sunday in Lagos.
