Salah and Mane lead in race for Golden Boot

Liverpool pair's respective doubles send them above Sergio Aguero as Premier League’s leading scorers

The brace of goals each scored by both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah against Huddersfield Town not only put Liverpool back above Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, but they also sent the pair into the top two places in the race for the Golden Boot.

Salah had been level with Sergio Aguero on 19 goals before his double at Anfield returned the Egyptian to the No 1 slot in defence of the award that was presented to him by Cadbury last season.

After hitting a record 32 goals last season, Salah has become only the third Liverpool player to score at least 20 Premier League goals in consecutive campaigns for the club, after Robbie Fowler, in 1994/95 and 1995/96, and Luis Suarez, 2012/13 and 2013/14.

Mane's double took the Senegalese above Aguero on 20 goals. It also made Liverpool the first club to have two players score at least 20 goals in a single Premier League season since the Reds themselves did so in 2013/14 through Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

With Naby Keita, of Guinea, opening the scoring after only 15 seconds, it meant that all five goals were scored by African players. That is the most by players from the continent in a Premier League match.

Focus will now turn to Aguero and City, who will have the chance to return back to their respective No 1 slots away to Burnley on Sunday.

Update On Slay Queen Who Was Stripped Naked And Tortured Over Missing Phone.

The League of Patriotic Lawyers has given Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusegun Odumosu, 24 hours to unravel those behind the torture and insertion of pepper into a girl’s private part in Benin City over alleged stealing of a mobile phone.  Chairman of the platform and former Student Union President of the University of Benin, Mr. Abubakar Yesufu, who said this in a statement yesterday, also urged the state Director, Department of State Services, DSS, to be involved in the investigation. A video of the incident, seen by Vanguard yesterday, showed the girl being stripped naked by a group of people, who inserted pepper into her private parts for allegedly stealing a phone.
