Arsenal to offer Crystal Palace £40m plus Calum Chambers, Mohamed Elneny and Carl Jenkinson for £80m-rated talisman Wilfried Zaha

Arsenal are prepared to step up their pursuit for Wilfried Zaha by offering Crystal Palace cash plus three players in a bid to lure him to the Emirates.

According to the Sun, the Gunners are looking to offload defenders Calum Chambers, Mohamed Elneny and Carl Jenkinson in a bid to sweeten the deal.

Arsenal have already had a £40million offer rejected by Palace who value their talisman at £80m.

Zaha, who is currently away on international duty with Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations, has made Palace aware of his desire to leave.

And he has been given personal assurances by chairman Steve Parish, who he has a close relationship with, that he will not be priced out of a move and the south Londoners are not trying to stand in the way of him progressing his career.

Palace were angered by Arsenal's opening valuation of Zaha but should they return with an improved offer that better reflects his market value and importance to Palace the south Londoners will be open to discussing a deal.

And Arsenal hope to match that offer on the proviso that they value Chambers, Elneny and Jenkinson at a combined £40m.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is starting his summer shopping spree with one arm tied behind his back, however, after his side failed to qualify for the Champions League next season.

It means they have a starting budget of around £45million and are hoping to do a couple of deals on the cheap.

The League of Patriotic Lawyers has given Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusegun Odumosu, 24 hours to unravel those behind the torture and insertion of pepper into a girl’s private part in Benin City over alleged stealing of a mobile phone.  Chairman of the platform and former Student Union President of the University of Benin, Mr. Abubakar Yesufu, who said this in a statement yesterday, also urged the state Director, Department of State Services, DSS, to be involved in the investigation. A video of the incident, seen by Vanguard yesterday, showed the girl being stripped naked by a group of people, who inserted pepper into her private parts for allegedly stealing a phone.
