Tribunal Dismisses Atiku, PDP’s Application to Inspect INEC’s Server

The petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar suffered a major hiccup on Monday as the presidential tribunal dismissed their application seeking access to inspect an alleged server belonging to INEC. Giving ruling in the interlocutory motion, Justice Mohammed Garba, Chairman of the tribunal held that granting such application at this stage would prejudice the main petition. Garba explained that the court was yet to keep abreast of testimonies of witnesses and documentary evidence from all parties in the matter, adding that granting the request at this stage would pre-empt the proceedings. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dr Levi Uzoukwu SAN, Counsel for the petitioners/applicants, in an interlocutory application, urged the tribunal to grant his clients access to inspect the server used for the general election. Court Issues Bench Warrant For Arrest Of Innosson CEO

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday, issued a bench warrant for the arrest and production in court of Chairman of Innoson Nigeria Ltd, Innocent Chukwuma and two others charged with fraud. The defendants were charged before Justice Ayokunle Faji. The police authority had charged them with an alleged N2.4billion shipping fraud, but the Attorney-General of the Federation later took over the case. Others named in the charge are Charles Chukwuma, Maximian Chukwura, Mitsui Osk Lines and Anajekwu Sunny. The prosecutor, Mr Julius Ajakaiye, had urged the court to order the arrest of Innoson and others, for failing to appear in court to take their plea to the criminal charge. He had said that the charge was on the defendants by an order for substituted service on Feb. 8, 2016 following the AGF’s take-over of the case. Mr Godwin Emefiele, CBN Governor The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, says he will bring inflation to single digit within the next five years. Emefiele made the promise in Abuja on Monday during a press briefing on his policy road map in his second term. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the inflation rate dropped to 11.4 per cent as at May. He said that CBN, under his leadership, would ensure that monetary policy measures would be geared towards containing inflationary pressures. Emefiele said that he would also support improved productivity in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors. He stressed that he would strive to continue to sustain a positive interest rate regime to the delight of the bank’s important stakeholders. Manchester United reportedly turned down an offer from Paris Saint-Germain to swap Paul Pogba for Neymar. The Brazilian seems to have his heart set on a return to Barcelona, though, with Spanish media claiming he is willing to make a public apology to Barca supporters in a bid to secure his return to the Nou Camp this summer.
