Zamfara APC crisis worsens and Yari rejects party’s last option
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Governor Abdulaziz Yari has allegedly rejected peaceful negotiations that would enable the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC to contest all the elective positions in the State.
DAILY POST gathered that the party’s national headquarters arranged consensus negotiations to fill in the candidates in the state but the Governor rejected the peace accord outrightly.
According to a source very close to the state Government House in Gusau, the state capital, Governor Abdulaziz Yari insisted that his candidate, Alhaji Muktar Idris Shehu must remain the governorship candidate of the party in the state.
” I cannot accept any member of the G8 group to be given the governorship ticket, otherwise there would be no candidate of the party in the state,” he was said to have boasted.
In a separate interview with one of the political heavyweights in the state wing of the APC, Alhaji Bature Nahuche, he said, “All the problems in the party were being caused by the Governor.
“We are in a vehicle being driven by a ‘mad man’. We are only praying fervently for the ‘mad man’s’ driver to drive us home very safely, ” he lamented.
However senator Garba Kabiru Marafa advised that the governorship candidate should be given to former governor, Mahmud’s Aliyu Shinkafi to complete his second tenure.
He repeatedly said that the G8 group was not fighting Hon. Muktar Idris Shehu as a person, saying that the group is only fighting the imposition of candidates on the cards carrying members by Governor Abdulaziz Yari .
The senator noted that the G8 would not accept the governorship ticket to be given to the candidate of the Governor who is his Commissioner of Finance, Hon. Muktar Idris Shehu.
But the governorship candidate of the PDP, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle has warned that the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, should not make the mistake of allowing APC to contest any election in the state.
The governorship hopeful noted that he would head to the court of competent jurisdiction if the APC is allowed to participate in the elections due to the power of incumbency.
According to him, he would be making a state broadcast over the pending issues before the end of the day, saying that the judicial is the last hope of the common man.
