Van der Berg made 15 appearances in the Eredivisie last season and another five in other competitions as he comes in to bolster Jurgen Klopp's backline.

Liverpool will see how the centre-back develops and may decide to give him time in the Under 23s or send him back out on loan.

The youngster has also earned four caps for Holland at Under 19s level.

Liverpool have completed the signing of PEC Zwolle defender Sepp van der Berg.

The Reds agreed to an initial fee of £1.3million for the highly-regarded centre-back on Thursday which could rise to £4.4m should Van der Berg go on to make a certain number of appearances in the Premier League and Champions League.

The 17-year-old will report to Melwood on July 6 to meet his new team-mates ahead of the new campaign.
Van den Berg told the club's official website: 'It's just an amazing feeling.

'It is, for me, the biggest club in the world and it's a dream come true. I am really excited. I've seen what kind of players from the academy grew into the first team here. It is unbelievable, especially when this kind of big club does that.

'Of course, the trainer [Jurgen Klopp] is a great guy and one of the reasons they are successful – and also one of the reasons I came here. I think this is the best place for me to grow and hopefully play a lot of games here.'
