Manchester City join Manchester United in chase for Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly as they 'make £85m bid'
Manchester City are ready to take on rivals Manchester United for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as the Premier League champions make an £85million bid for him.
According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Senegal international is seen as a replacement for Vincent Kompany at City and boss Pep Guardiola is keen on him.
Koulibaly is considered one of the finest defenders in world football and with four years left on his current deal in Naples, it would take a world-record fee to acquire him this summer.
Napoli have no desire to cash in on the 27-year-old and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has stated in the past that it would take a remarkable offer for him to consider selling.
But the Neopolitan side are reportedly set to make a number of additions this summer and may opt to cash in on Koulibaly with his stock as high as it is right now.
Carlo Ancelotti's side are said to be in talks with Roma defender Kostas Manolas - viewed in some quarters as a potential replacement - and Real Madrid outcast James Rodriguez.
Koulibaly has a £133m release clause that becomes active from the summer of 2020.
Both United and City see adding defenders as a priority this summer with Leicester City's Harry Maguire another player the two sides share an interest in.
Like Koulibaly, it would take a record fee, believed to be close to £90m, to prize Maguire away from the King Power Stadium this summer.
