Buffon's back at Juve! on free transfer after signing one-year deal with Serie A champion
Former Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has rejoined Juventus, the Serie A champions have announced.
And this has paved the way for the way for the 2006 Italy World Cup winner to make a shock return as the club's No 2.
Buffon has already accepted the deputy position to Szczesny as he bids to take up a future role in management after the season is over.
Buffon won nine Serie A titles as well as four Coppa Italia's at Juventus, and he will be desperate to add to that remarkable tally as he returns for an emotional swansong under Maurizio Sarri.
The 41-year-old, who spent 17 years with the Italian club before leaving for Paris St Germain last summer, has signed a one-year contract. He underwent a medical in Turin on Thursday morning.
'After a year away from Turin, Gianluigi Buffon has returned to Juventus after penning a one-year contract which will tie him to the club until 30 June 2020,' read a statement on the club website. 'Buffon is back home!'
After 17 hugely successful seasons and 656 appearances for Serie A giants Juventus, the Italian made the move to Paris Saint-Germain last summer on a free transfer.
He featured sparingly for the French giants in what was a hugely underwhelming campaign - winning only Ligue 1 and getting dumped out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage.
Juve's second choice stopper Mattia Perrin is expected to walk out of the exit door this summer as he looks to fulfill a career as a No 1 somewhere else.
