INEC declares Ondo South Senatorial election inconclusive, leading candidate kicks

The Ondo South Senatorial election has been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The Returning Officer for the district, Prof. Kayode Onifade, emphasized that the cancellation of the election in 42 polling units due to some irregularities was the reason while the election was declared inconclusive.

The Peoples Democratic Party Candidate, Nicholas Tofowomo was having the upper hand across the six local government areas of the senatorial district with 79,029 votes already in his kitty, while the APC candidate and incumbent senator, Yele Omogunwa was scoring 51,993 before the election was declared inconclusive.

According to INEC, a winner could not be declared when the total number of registered voters in the cancelled polling units which is 28,047 were above the margin between the PDP and the APC, with the margin standing at 27,036 votes.

Meanwhile, the campaign organization of the PDP candidate has rejected the decision of INEC to declare the senatorial election inconclusive.

In a statement issued, the PDP campaign spokesperson, Olumide Akirinlola maintained that his principal, Tofowomo should be declared winner, stating that the people had already spoken.

Akinrinlola who faulted the decision of INEC on the decision, queried why the commission cancelled votes in polling units in the senatorial election but declared results of the three House of Representatives seat in the district in an election held simultaneously.

“The returning officer, Prof. Kayode Onifade said he doesn’t know names of those canceled polling units not until he gets to Akure, the state capital.

“Unfortunately, winners were declared by INEC in the 3 federal constituencies in the Senatorial district of which the House of Representatives and Senate elections were held same date, same places and same time.

“We are protesting this daylight robbery and attempt to undermine the wishes of the electorates in Ondo South.

“We advise our people to keep calm. We will resist this satanic agenda by INEC in collaboration with APC to put Ondo south in crisis,” he said.
