Zidane is still waiting to learn whether the club can sign midfielder Paul Pogba
Real Madrid have given Zinedine Zidane almost everything he asked for in the transfer market.
As he waits to see if Paul Pogba is going to arrive to complete his wish-list he will have already began to piece together his gala XI for next season.
we looks at three of the big tactical dilemmas facing Real Madrid's returning coach...
Zidane inherited a team with many problems but one he felt was in need of urgent repair this summer was the gaping hole in front of the defence.
Holding midfielder just wasn’t holding for Madrid last season. If Zidane sticks with 4-3-3 then again Casemiro will be isolated as the holder. And with Marcos Llorente not to Zidane’s liking and now at neighbours Atletico Madrid there is no real alternative.
If Pogba arrives then Casemiro will have to soldier on flanked by the new signing and by Luka Modric, Toni Kroos or Fede Valverde.
If Manchester United hold their ground and Pogba stays where he is then Madrid plan to offer Zidane an alternative signing.
After missing out on Tanguy NDombele, Zidane and Madrid may look to Donny van der Beek, Fabian Ruiz or Christian Eriksen - but this would eliminate a defensive base alongside Casemiro.
A double pivot with the Brazilian and NDombele was considered to really protect Sergio Ramos and his defence.
